1970 because I have one, it was the last year for a big block, and I like the clear parking lenses.

Although the first car I ever bought on my own was a 68....

The first NEW car I ever bought was a 74 Hatchback. And now I own one. So 74 gets the vote. The 73 is a bonus in the driveway.

'68. I love the 'Chevy II' moniker. I would say '71, but they didn't have big-blocks and the 8.5" 10-bolt was a year away. Plus I've always loved the look of the bumpers and tail lights on the earlier 3rd gens.

ps- davidr... I agree about the clear lenses. I put those on my '71, and it looks MUCH nicer, especially against the yellow paint.

I like all the 68-72 cars, but I lean more to the 68-70's because you could get a BB.

No, because I have 2 third gens! :D

do we get two votes?

one could argue (as above) '69 for the yenko creation,
personally i like the '71 and then the '72 rally nova.
i love the side stripe on the rally's. im searching for one now.
'71 rally had ~7700 made vs '72 rally had ~33000 made, so '71 is a lil more rare.

but ya gotta love the third gens- this is what muscle cars are about!
light car with big powerplants with "muscular" lines, despite their INITIALLY designed function- economy family car.

to me, i love every line on the these cars-sail panel, scant trim and chrome, simply muscle car form and function to get the job done.
not many frills (least not on mine- since i pulled the ac and heater).

love em. :D

[QUOTE=taz3;748604]69,cause that's what I own,and they came with the biggest power plant ever stuffed into a Nova!:devil:427 CID!

Dick Harrell, Motion Perfromance, Nickey Chevrolet, etc. all offered the 454 Nova. This is an ad from the Motion Performance book of 1971.

1970 first for me because a buddy had a SS 396 and thats what made me first want a Nova

A very close second place vote is the 1968 as mentioned earlier because its just a little bit different than the rest and the Chevy II

btw - I have had my 72 since 1990, and I still don't know of any differences between mine and a 71

I like 72 only because i have one!! If I did'nt have one I would probably pick 68 or 69 because you could get a 396 in them. Big Blocks in Novas are the coolest in my opinion.

I like the 69 cuz that's what I have and I looked for a 69 for the small tail and side marker lights, I didn't like the Dash of the 68 and the fact of the BB option. Although mine had a 6 banger. And like someone else mentioned "Who doesn't like 69?"

I like the 68 the most and dislike it the most at the same time. I like the fact that it has features distinct to that year only. But in saying that...what a pain to find those parts.

396SS
29th-January-2008, 09:13 AM
68 of course. It is the first and best of them all. That's why it has alot of one year only parts in it, since it was so good and flawlessly perfect in design, GM had to limit production on these beauties so that they become highly desirable cars in the future. That's why the others 69 - 74 are different because they had to undo some of the greatness incorporated into the 68.:)

I know once I submit this I will probably find it, but do you have a glove box latch? The one that screws to the dash.

Thanks, thread returned.

Although I have a 73- i wish i had a 68-72 body style. I can't complain though, my car is different than any other in my whole town and it runs good.

I have a 73' which i think is great but i have to go with a 68' or even better a 68' SS...and its probably because it was the first nova i ever saw growing up and thats the car that made me want one so bad.

I dont see how 73-74 are in the same generation. :confused:well since73-74 cars use the same fenders, wells, frame, floor pans, firewall, core support, front/rear glass, doors, lower quarters, roof line, dash, seats, cowl, suspention, etc. i'd say it is a 3rd, 2nd camaros are the same way but look different front and rear, 4rth gen novas share simular parts but not much will interchange except drive train.

I like 69 the best. I like the smaller turn signal lenses and smaller marker lights, and love that 396 rat. I used to have a 69 SS 396 L78 Nova with a 4 speed and it was a gas to hammer on.
