I'm working on the engine on a 1974 Nova 350 w/HEI.
The valve covers have metal brackets attached to them that hold spark plug wire seperators.

Anyone know where I might find these wire seperators? I have none, so I'm not even sure what they would look like. But I'm pretty sure they snap in to the bracket on the valve cover.

Seems to me I've seen them on a spin rack at Napa, but I went there today and nothing.
Are these obsolete? Can I get them from the Chev dealer? I guess I'll go down to the parts dept tomorrow, but I thought somebody here might be able to help me out and save me some time. I really need to be working on the engine, not sourcing these parts.........arrrrrggghhhhh

Hi 1969GARNETSS,

I believe this is the style you are searching for:

You can print this pic and take it to some local auto parts stores. These probably aren't as common as they used to be so you hopefully you can find a counterperson willing to look through the parts books.

You'll need 2 of these style clips. They snap into the rear set of brackets on the valve covers and hold the 2 wires going up to the front sets of spark plugs. The plastic clips that snap into the front set of valve cover brackets just hold the wiring looms ... they don't have the plug wire holders on top.

And if I remember correctly, the plastic wire loom is different size on each side. Larger on the passenger side for the alternator wiring, and smaller on the driver side for the temp sender & idle solenoid wiring. So you need 2 different sizes of the plastic clips.

There are also some plug wire holders that attach to the outermost valvecover bolts. The original 74 ones were rubber coated stamped steel with 2 plug wire notches each. Later years went to a steel tab with a snap-on plastic plug wire holder. Here's a pic of my dad's GMC

In the middle of the pic you can see the holder that goes on the top of the valve cover (same as in the first pic). And at the very bottom you can just barely see part of the other plug wire holder that attaches to the valve cover bolts.

Thank you, this has been very helpful. Now for the parts search..........
