Hey guys I would like to change the original seat belts in my 71 to a
retractable 3 point belt. Has anybody done this? If so what type and year of car did you get yours from.

Greetings,
I would think you could use the 3-point setup from a 74 Nova without any issues...It'd defintely be worth trying!

Jason Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that something out of a 4th gen should work.

Hi 71454,
The only problem I can forsee with installing 74 - 79 seatbelts in an earlier year would be mounting the shoulder belt retractors. They mount in special recessed pockets in the inner roof structure. You'd almost have to cut those mounting areas from the roof of the donor car and weld them into your car.
Companies such as Andover Restraints (http://www.andoauto.com/seat_belts.htm) sell retractable 3 point seatbelt retrofit kits for older cars. I believe they use the original mounting points (on cars originally equipped with non-retractalble shoulder belts) so no modifications are necessary.

I think 68-73 would all be the same. Classic Industries has a new 3 point retractable set you can get for $300 and it says for those years.

Yeah Slickman, Where did you get the belt set ups? I would be interested in doing this in my 69 as well.

I just installed 3 point belts from Julianos in my 72. Seems pretty quality to me.
