Just thought I'd jump over to y'all section and see how our members in the Great NorthWest fared during the big storms out there.
Hope everything is O.K. for y'all.

Somehow, Skagit County was spared by this one...pretty odd because we're usually one of the first/worst to flood.

The upper skagit crested about 1 1/2 feet above "flood stage" while the lower only broke flood stage by about 1/2 a foot. It was considered a "stage 1" flood so some evacuations, but fortunately only rural roads and low-lying fields were flooded...so no significant damages.
The real problem up here was the wind (gusting 60-81mph)...several fallen trees and closed highways.

However, a little further south things were pretty nasty! My aunt lives in the Aberdeen area and said there were several roads in her area under several feet of water, including I-5. The state patrol's recommended detour, from what I understand, was quite a LONG trip out of the way...so a lot of semi-trucks were re-routing and getting stuck on the sharp turns of rural roads--making the evacuation process even worse. Several houses and businesses were washed away/destroyed..some in 10 feet of water. The hospital (and all of the town) was without power--fortunately, the hospital had functional generators for backup power..

Last I had heard, there have been 5 lost and dozens injured. :(

In the Centralia/Chehalis area 20 miles of I-5 are underwater and closed. The detour is said to take 6.5 hrs. They are hoping to reopen it monday. Not likely from the looks of it.

The winds in Portland were not as bad as predicted but still got some good rainfall totals and some spot flooding/landslides. Not bad enough to stop the 64 from rolling its 30 mile daily commute!! But did make me want some faster wipers and stronger heater.

I don't feel terribly bad about losing three fence posts + 18 feet of my back fence due to the storm when looking at what it did to others.
