Carl Stevenson 13th-November-2007, 02:36 PM No picture showing, but no, I don't think so. There was one in Winnipeg years ago, but it was a put together car. Still, very neat to think about such a car being made though, isn't it? 68MotionL88Nova 13th-November-2007, 02:58 PM http:www.geocities.com/ssacadian/acadian/A-68ss427.jpq FNG 13th-November-2007, 03:06 PM http:www.geocities.com/ssacadian/acadian/A-68ss427.jpq That one did not work either:cool: 68MotionL88Nova 13th-November-2007, 03:08 PM Try it this way,Google search-click on images-search-427 Acadian Nova, just saw it again... supernovanator 13th-November-2007, 06:55 PM maybe i did it wrong? i went to yahoo... 1 result found: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/supernovanator/2220216434.jpg supernovanator 13th-November-2007, 06:58 PM is this it? http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/supernovanator/A-68ss427.jpg L78 Nova 13th-November-2007, 07:20 PM That's funny, I saw that same photo 2-3 years ago without the "SS 427" photoshopped onto the license plate. Still a VERY cool car though !!! It made me drool for weeks. For some reason I recall thinking it was a 69.... headrests ? Gary 2 black ragtops 13th-November-2007, 07:28 PM definately appears to be photoshopped(at least the plate is!).if you look carefully you can see the words"beautiful british columbia" and as a bc'er i know the plate colour is all wrong and the "-" mark wouldn't appear in a bc plate as this one does.i can't say much about the 3rd gen's as far as subtle differences, but i do know the license plates pretty well. carl. supernovanator 13th-November-2007, 07:29 PM That's funny, I saw that same photo 2-3 years ago without the "SS 427" photoshopped onto the license plate. Gary are acadians different that much from novas? my 69 nova has headrests... all 3 of them;) L78 Nova 13th-November-2007, 07:51 PM Acadians just have trim differences. 68 & 69 have the wide grille bars like the picture. and a rear plate between the tailights that says acadian (approx 1-1/2" x 18"). Other than that wherever there is a Nova emblem it is replaced with an "A" or an Acadian emblem. I remember now why I thought 69... 69 Acadian SS cars used the "SS" grille emblem. 68 Acadian SS cars used the "A" grille emblem. (according to the dealer brochures) GAry 68MotionL88Nova 13th-November-2007, 08:25 PM I saw pictures of this car years ago,the onlydifference is that it had interior shots and engine bay shots.Definitly had a BB Heater box,BB rad,and BB engine. You could see on the AirCleaner it said 427.It also is a 4spd console with guages car .This current picture is the only one of it I found on the web .So did they make 68 Acadian SS 396 cars and he put the 427 in it? By the way I did copy the first pictures I saw of the Acadian Nova back then, just gotta dig thru all my stuff to find them.If I find them,I'll post them. L78 Nova 13th-November-2007, 08:57 PM Acadian parts books have no big block parts listings. Gary 68MotionL88Nova 13th-November-2007, 09:17 PM Just found the pictures,Looks like it was a 68 Acadan SS 350 4sp car by Factory in dash tach redline. 7000 factory tach with 5000 redline.Car was converted to BB 427. Dr. Denny 14th-November-2007, 01:56 PM It has a tach and a clock in the old photos. So where's the fuel gauge? L78 Nova 14th-November-2007, 08:12 PM The clear signal lenses were an Acadian part. Good eye ! CdnL79 Registry 15th-November-2007, 07:28 PM I talked to GM Canada a few years ago about big block factory Acadians They said they have no record of any being built. There would be no questions about this car if the owner simply had it GM Canada documented. Bob 68MotionL88Nova 15th-November-2007, 08:02 PM Dr Denny,In the factory console with guages which is in this car. Thanks Canadian guys for setting the record straight. Now how many Acadian 68 SS 350 4spd cars built in Canada and how many Acadian 68 L79 Nova 4spd's built? CdnL79 Registry 15th-November-2007, 11:17 PM Now how many Acadian 68 SS 350 4spd cars built in Canada and how many Acadian 68 L79 Nova 4spd's built? GM Canada cannot provide total figures by options, so no numbers on how many 68 SS or L79 cars. The best they can do is report the number of V/8 Coupes. When GM Canada documents a car, they list options that came with that vehicle. This is where SS and L79 packages would show up, but only for that vehicle, no totals. There are rumours that some 1968 L79 Chevy II's were imported to Canada, but I've never seen documentation to prove it. I've never heard of any 1968 L79 Acadians. Bob L78 Nova 16th-November-2007, 09:38 AM The 68 Acadian SS cars are pretty rare. I can only ever recall seeing one legit 68 SS Acadian in the Wpg area. There seem to be a few more of the 69 & 70 cars. Gary 68MotionL88Nova 16th-November-2007, 02:19 PM Wow!! orest402 20th-November-2007, 06:09 PM What's the deal with 3rd. Gen. Novas and Acadian models. I've seen '70 Nova SS models both in Acadian form and regular models that most are familiar with. Now, I have a '70 that was sold NEW in Canada and it's NOT an Acadian, in the same model year did they make BOTH styles? Must have it seems. Were the more traditional ones built in the U.S. while the Acadian models of the same car built in Canadian plants? Now, why would they build the same model in 2 forms? Wouldn't that make it very expensive to stock 2 different styles of trim and not to mention the tooling for this dual model? Please "SPLAIN" it to me LUCY..........I DON"T KNOW....... taz3 20th-November-2007, 07:38 PM Yes both models were available up here,I have 2 69 SS BB cars one is Canadian, the other is a US car.We got the best of both worlds, alot of the trim was also used on Beaumonts(Chevelle/Nova sister cars) as well so it helped to justify tooling costs. All of the differences are cosmetic, which is also more cost affective. CdnL79 Registry 20th-November-2007, 08:04 PM The last Acadians and Chevy IIs built in Canada were 1967 models. After that both were built in the U.S. and exported for sale in Canada. Acadians continued to be sold at Pontiac-Buick dealerships and Novas at Chevrolet-Oldsmobile outlets, so both were available in Canada just like they were from the beginning in 1962. The last Acadians were built in 1971, but Novas were built for Canada right through til the end in 1979. Beginning in 1968, Acadians began to become more and more like Novas, even dropping the Sport Deluxe name in favor of Super Sport. The powertrains were the same, except there is no record of any 1968 L79 Acadians or 68-70 big blocks. Acadians were always a seperate line of cars from the Chevy II/Nova in Canada and always cost a few dollars more. Bob L78 Nova 20th-November-2007, 08:18 PM It all started way back with some sort of Government imposed import requirements for Canada??? GM set up a Canadian pontiac plant and the "Acadian" brand later grew out of that. All the Canadian built Pontiacs had Chevy powertrains. Many differences in trim and models betwen the US and Canada. All slowly phased out after 68 or 69. Not sure the details but... prior to 68 or 69 you could not purchase an American pontiac from a Canadian dealer (ie. GTO) They had to be imported from a US dealer. My friends father bought a 65 GTO rag new out of Grand Forks N.D. and he had to go through the whole import deal back then... still has it although not driven for 10+ years... not for sale taz3 20th-November-2007, 09:47 PM Wow,lots of info I never really kept up with the Acaidians and I even owned one.:oI always liked the grill better with the 2 bright edge bars. | |
