I've pretty much stripped out the rear half of my 63 in preparation for new paint and figured I might as well mini tub it as well.
The driver side outer wheel house is a mess; patched up with alot of tar so I think I might as well "tub" it; not huge tubs though and I don't mind the "racecar" look anyway.
I've already moved the front spring perch inboard to meet the old frame rail but realize that if I notch or replace some of the old frame rail that I will gain more tire space.
If I replace most or all of the old rails I'd like to remove them before I put in the new one so I'm wondering if and how I should support the rear of the car? I would assume removing only one at time would help; should I support the remaining one near the rear and maybe put sone support under the area where the bumper brackets attach to on the side that will be removed?
Also when it comes to welding the new rails, do you weld the rail to the trunk pan the full length of the rail on both sides or just a series of heavy tacks?
Anyone put in a xmember at the rear to tie the rails together?; doesn't seem to be much room unless you cut up the trunk pan?
Pics.......please.
Btw I'm planning on using my mono leads and shackles at the rear.
