What if?

What if I got fiberglass front and rear bumpers, hood, front fenders and lost my inner fenders about how much weight would I loose on a 74 nova
My plans are to cut down the inner bumper just enough to bolt to the tub at both ends too.

My goal is to get the car down to 3200 lbs or less without me in it. < is this even do able within reason

Does any one know how much these parts weigh verses fiberglass?

supposedly 68-72 front ends weigh less than 73-74... summit sells a complete fender/grille front end for $1040.... I will get you the specs and such asap...

I dont know how much weight savings there are but a steel nova has a registration weight of 3300lbs...

my car has full interior, all metal, smallblock and when i weighed it on the truck scale with a spare tire and a full tank of gas, i came in at 3220#'s....

I'm assuming without driver? I'm prepared for my junker to weigh nearly 3500 with my huge self in the drivers seat:eek:

Keep in mind he's talking about a '74...with the heavy shock absorber bumpers and what-not.

I would imagine a complete fiberglass front end as well as bumpers would get you to your 3,200lb goal. If not, shouldn't take much more to get there.

and yes the bumpers shocks will go, along with about half of the inner bumper! I ve already got the back done right know.
gona loose all the floor insalation too.:D

and as for the fenders I think I can get just the fenders at glasstek for like 580 for the pair:eek: plus bumpers an such.

Im just in the planning stage now tho.

From what I've been told, the fenders won't save you much weight. The biggest gain is gunna be the hood/trunk and bumpers.

Put the $580 you saved from fenders into a basic nitrous kit or other performance mods... ;)

My link shows how light you can go on a 3rd gen mines all Glass fibre, the front end is race weight almost see through
I have lexan windows to go in so I am hoping to be around 2800# ready to race with all fluids and me installed.

i know in fourth gens the hatchback ones are quite abit heavier and heavier than 4 doors. and 4 doors are only like 30-50 pounds heavier than 2 doors.:D:D:D
