I am puzzled this evening. I ran my trim tag through a decoder and something didn't add up. Maybe I did it incorrectly. I hope not. Before I say what I found, maybe someone can run it or look it up in a book and tell me what they find.

Look for a "D" in the 5th position in your VIN. It tells the truth about the engine, not the trim tag.
The "D" denotes a 250 L6.

Off topic, but it looks like someone put a new tag on a rusty firewall.

What happened was I ran the tag on the car and it came back as a V-8. I said it couldn't be right cause I have a 250-6. Now I have to check the VIN number for the D code. I was puzzled because the car also has staggered shocks and a front stabilizer bar. Things I didn't think came for a six. Thanks for all your replies. Billy.

I think all the body tags are 11427. The bodies are all the same. It is the VIN that tells you if it is a 4,6, or 8 cylinder car. 1972 VIN's will tell you which motor specifically it has.
