Defective ARE rims???

Has anyone bought any defective ARE rims??

I'm a little pissed that a new set of ARE Hopsters are leaking air from the inside welded area of the rim. I have emailed the "person/company" where I bought them from, but if I have problems getting results, what can be done?

Epoxy the air leak and take the new rim and new tire to get rebalanced?

I have a set of TT2's I bought from the same "person/company" on my Buick Wagon and over the last couple of months have noticed that the air is being leaked too, but need to take it in and find out if I caught a nail or something or the same thing ?!?!

:(:(

Well, I just talked to the speed shop and they said to clean it off real good and apply some JB Weld Epoxy to the area, because that is what they (ie. ARE) would do and to not fear since they have a lifetime warranty.

I just fear that if I "alter" the rim with some epoxy, ARE will void the warranty?

What do you all think???

I emailed ARE, but I am not holding my breath as it always seems big companies suck at returning email requests.

I had ordered 4 TT II's from a tire and wheel store, and when they arrived at the store, one was damaged (edge was bent) so it was sent back for replacement. The replacement came in, and it too, was damaged (same problem-bent edge). I immediately placed a call to AR, and they were aware of the two damaged rims that were sent, and apoligized, and promised that the next one would be fine. It was, because they triple-boxed that sucker so that it wouldn't get banged up in transit. It seems that certain parcel companies that we'll leave unnamed, are not very careful handling fragile packages.
Definitely, if you're local retailer doesn't want to work with you, by all means call AR and tell them you want a new wheel.

If they come with a lifetime warranty then I would tell them that I am using that warranty and would like a new wheel.

I agree you should get new wheels that don't leak:mad:! Thats what you paid for, is'nt it? I mean if the add said new AR Hoopster wheels that only leak a little bit but look killer would you have bought them? Who ever told you to use JB weld is a bull *****ter, wheels should not leak PERIOD! Get new ones, or get your money back! Don't settle for nothing less. I had a bad experience with a chipped wheel, but thankfully the company(Coys) made good and replaced it ASAP. Good luck

Yes, I do agree with all the comments about getting new ones, it just that I had tires mounted and balanced. So, I could call the company back, tell "him" I want him to get a new one for me, then go and have the tire dismounted, send the rim back, wait for the new one, then take it all back into a shop and get it remounted.

I know, I know, not that big of a deal, but I just don't have tons of time. Okay, I know it's NOTHING compared to being somewhere and being stuck with a flat, but...

I guess I know what I need to do, I guess I just was trying to talk myself out of it and avoid the hassle if others have done epoxy and said it worked great. :o

Thanks and I even though the guy/company has given me pretty good deals and he told me that they are first line rims, I just have to question if they are seconds or are ARE just "cheaper quality" then I was expecting??

thanks

To make a long long story short...

I returned the rim, recieved another rim that was the wrong bolt pattern, returned that one and recieved a rim with a bent lip, returned that one and recieved a rim that was a different "style" (it had different contours on the barrel), returned that one and recieved another "different" rim....

I then exchanged 4-5 emails with ARE "technical" person whom basically said that the they have not changed the style nor if there was difference in style it wasn't enough to be noticable.

I threw in the towel (and got overly pissed off!!!) and kept the 3 matching rims, got a refund for the 4th rim and went down to JEGS and bought a 4th matching rim.

3 months later, 5 incorrect rims, 4-5 arguing emails with ARE and I finally have all the tires/rims mounted but....

I WILL NEVER BUY AN ARE RIM AGAIN !!!

I'll spend my hard earned/saved up cash on another brand next time.
