305 or 350chvy74 30th-October-2007, 12:44 AM how do i tell its a 305 or a 350 did a 74 nova evern come with a 305 Steve340 30th-October-2007, 12:46 AM Had a 74 with a tre fitty fo speed was a nice nova I dont think 305's had quite made it to the scene yet supernovanator 30th-October-2007, 12:50 AM i agree i dont think 305's were around... but who knows maybe nova 75_77 will say something :D:rolleyes::p EDIT: wiki says 305s werent in novas until '76 FNG 30th-October-2007, 12:54 AM The 305 was not released until 76 so you either have a 307 or a 350. Do you know if the engine in there is the original? supernovanator 30th-October-2007, 12:56 AM The 305 was not released until 76 so you either have a 307 or a 350. Do you know if the engine in there is the original? I thought 307 stopped in 73? FNG 30th-October-2007, 01:09 AM I think you are right, sorry about that:o FNG 30th-October-2007, 01:11 AM Here is what I found. Sorry for the wrong info... 307 Production: 19681973 Displacement: 307 in³ (5.0 L) Power: 115200 hp (86149 kW) Bore and Stroke: 3.875" x 3.25" batman09 30th-October-2007, 01:12 AM look here http://www.novaresource.org/engine.htm if its original...its a 350 BareProductions 30th-October-2007, 09:31 AM To my knowledge there is no way to tell the difference between a 307 and a 350 unless you run the casting number and/or suffix code. ...not sure about 305's though Casting number is on the driver side of the transmission mounting flange. Suffix code is on the passenger side pad in front of the surface where the head mates with the block, just behind the alternator. There are a bunch of sites you can decode the numbers at...or just google the number along with "small block" I had to run the numbers to show the owner that the 73 Nova Custom I was buying was a 307 and not a 350 veno 30th-October-2007, 10:21 AM like said above, 305 was not available, However, that does mean some one did not put one in there:D you need casting numbers and the casting date off the back of the block. the casting date will look something like b 25 9 Which translates to February 25 1969 or 1979 or 1989 or 1959 or 1999 KEITH'S75CUSTOM 30th-October-2007, 10:51 AM i agree i dont think 305's were around... but who knows maybe nova 75_77 will say something :D:rolleyes::p EDIT: wiki says 305s werent in novas until '76 im alittle late but yes i knew the 305 answer. it wasnt in novas till 76 but my 75 has one in it that the previous owner swapped with the 262:D oh and also the 262 has the same casting number as the 305.
