I've always filled it until it started to overflow out the fill hole. I don't know if that is really the right way to do it or not though..

My 1969 Motor Manual shows 3.5 pints for a 66 and 4 for a 67. So, 1.75 qts or 2 qts. The old fill till it just starts to run out the plug is usually ok also.

i'm not an actual gear oil specialist but i played one on Television, plus i stayed at a no-f'in Holiday Inn last night. i hear that 4 out of 5 dentists surveyed recommended using synthetic oil in your vehicles differential. as that person who's a outta work actor and a guy livin' in no-tell motels, i tend to agree with the 4 out of 5 dentists and i too run synthetic in my vehicles.
i'm hoping that my enthusiastic and sincere endorsement is picked up by a REAL gear oil specialist and they kick me down a few duckets fer doin' a whiz-bang job fer recommending using synthetic gear oil in The BatMan's BatMobile :D

I was told it takes about 2 1/2 quarts. After you fill it up and drive it you will have to add a little more because the tubes will fill up.
