The only color I can find are the red ones you linked to. My interior is red so I ordered them. Even if I decide to go with custom panels these will be good to have for future restoration.

EDIT ok looked a little deeper and found the rest.

You should modify the sticky to a

"Hard to find parts--links and short descriptions only" type of thread...this way useless banter is out of the way, and users can more easily browse through the list to find the parts they need.

The repro back dashes (rear shelf) should probably be added as well...(Just trying to get the ball rolling, you slacker of a mod. you!)

I just recieved the door panels and I am not impressed with what I recieved for the $$ spent. These are good looking panels and of better quality then the originals in that instead of formed plastic they are padded vinyl. They are true to the 77 design so they will match the rear panels just fine. Now the part I was not happy with is they were not advertised as unassembled panels. If they had been I would not have purchased them. The metal top edge is not included with the panels and will have to be removed from the old ones and installed and then the foam and vinyl pulled over and fastened. I went thru this on a Chevelle and it is not an easy task. On that car I finally gave up and purchased assembled panels.
Another plus is no holes are cut in them so other than stock arm rests can be installedwithout having to cover any extra holes. Overall I would recomend them as long as you are aware of the work needed to install the metal uppers.

Philip-

Is it worth posting a picture of the finish of the panel, especially the chrome strip?

Jay, if i decide to keep them I'll open the bag and take some photos. I may not have time until the weekend. I'll also get some of the photos taken of the seats we talked about.

Philip

Jay here are some photos of the PUI panels. As I said they are well made, just not complete. The chrome strip appears to be a duplicate of the original. I compared them to the 75 and 79 standard panels I have. The LN panels are different and this style would not be correct for them.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j199/64elcamino/77%20Nova%20project/doorpanelPUI.jpg

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j199/64elcamino/77%20Nova%20project/doorpanelPUIback.jpg

Here is the bad part. See the metal part, it is glued to the panel, then the padding and vinyl have to stretched and glued to the metal. Before installing on the new panel they need removed from the old. Then all the old glue and vinyl removed and then cleaned so the glue will adhere well.

I am going to get some prices to have this done at a shop. I tried it once and ruined the panel. If I had known they were not assembled I would not have purchased them.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j199/64elcamino/77%20Nova%20project/doorpanelupper.jpg

Once again they differ in that the panel is soft, padded and nicer than the original that feels like the vinyl was formed and bonded to the board. Here is a shot of what was on the car, the P O painted them and they look like crap.

those new panels look great and alot more cushy looking. and would be perfect if you were gonna shave the handles or armrest cause there are no holes. already.

so if its isnt to much money to get a shop to do it.(it shouldnt be) then that is a imo good panel.

Hello Everyone!

As some of you may be aware from a previous post, I have been working with a major manufacturer of automotive reproduction parts to develop a Replacement Rear Package Tray/Shelf for the 75-79 Nova, Apollo, Skylark, Omega, Ventura, and Phoenix 2 door coupe. I am happy to say that they are in production and they are now available. Although it took a little longer to get them into production than I had hoped, I am very pleased with the fit and quality of the product.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/glw1164/nova%20package%20tray/IMG_2504-1.jpg

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/glw1164/nova%20package%20tray/IMG_2502.jpg

The part is Vacuum Formed from high impact PVC. It has the same texture, shape, and appearance as the original part. Because it is a PVC material, it is not prone to warping from humidity like the pressed hardboard originals. The package tray has been CNC machine trimmed and includes the same speaker hole pattern as the originals. It is Black in color, but can easily be dyed or painted any color you need to match your interior. You must reuse your original felt mat or a similar substitute under the package tray. I do have these listed on eBay, but don't buy it there. I have a better price available to members of this site if you buy it direct. If you are interested, PM me for the details, or if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Gary.

I'm not a fan of dyes on hard plastics.

Thanks guys. I really tried to make a quality part and I think anyone who receives one will be more than satisfied with the quality. As I stated above, I am not actually making this part myself. It is being manufactured for me by a company that makes a wide variety of reproduction parts. They really know what they are doing.

As for making these in colors other than black, It can be done, and I am planning on offering them, but it will be slightly different in how it is made. To make one in any color other than black involves molding a tray from slightly thinner material, without the surface texture, and then laminating a thin, colored, textured, vinyl veneer onto the top of the tray. It can be done quite easily with the molds we've already made, but does involve more labor and material cost, therefore the price will be higher for the colored/laminated versions. I am waiting on the manufacturer to do a cost analysis, and give me my cost before I can offer the colored versions of the tray. As for the colors that will be available, any color Chevy used in the 75-79 Novas will be available. The manufacturer already has the correct colors of vinyl in stock for other parts they make.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you are asking if you can get one made of sheet metal, the answer is no, I can't vacuum form sheet metal. If you could provide more detail of what finish you are looking for I will try to answer your question.

Thanks,
Gary.

Nice work and they look great! Will they eventually be made for 4 door Novas?

Thanks Nova9C1! If the demand is high enough for the two door package trays, and I manage to recoup what I have invested in developing them (you wouldn't believe how much time and money it costs to R&D a new part) I would be willing to develop a four door version. I am in the process of making the molds for a replacement front air dam that would fit all models. The next projects after that will be to look at other interior trim pieces like the A and B pillar trims, Dash Pads, Door Panels, Center Consoles, etc. I know door panels are available elsewhere, but from what I've seen of them, I'm not all that impressed. Maybe I have a big ego, but I think I can do better.;):D

Thanks,
Gary.

I'll hold you to that as there will be more parts coming.

To be honest, They could be the same. I don't know for sure! I am not that familiar with 4 door models. I just assumed that since the rear window is different, and since there is a filler piece between the trunk lid and rear window that isn't on the 2 door models, that the package trays must be different as well. I reverse engineered the new package trays from the one in my 2 door and just rejected the idea that they might be the same for both body styles. If anyone knows for sure, chime in.

Thanks,
Gary

I know I can't make one with an actual brushed aluminum finish, but I would be willing to bet I can match the color in a silver vinyl. It wouldn't look like metal, but the color would be close to the same.

Thanks,
Gary.

the sail panels are different causse the sail is thicker and more straight. (thats why the trunk needed the filler panel)
but i thought the package was the same but not sure at all

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to let everyone know that the package trays are now available in other colors besides black. The picture below is of a tray I had made in 76-77 Firethorn for a member here who requested that color. The Firethorn color will be an exact match to the original Firethorn color. The Dark Buckskin color is also an exact match to the darker brown trays used on 76-77 models with the Light Buckskin interior. The Dark Oxblood, Black, and White should be correct for their respective years as well. Those are the only colors I have been able to confirm are correct. If you want a Tray in Firethorn, Dark Oxblood, Dark Buckskin, Light Buckskin, Black, or White, let me know. The colored trays will be made to order and there will be about a one week lead time prior to shipment.

Now I am asking for your help. I have listed below all the colors available in their respective years that I need help with in matching the colors. If you have a car with any of these colors in the interior, or any interior parts in these colors, I would like your help. If you could provide any photographs of the parts for my reference, it would help greatly. If you have interior parts that are unusable because of fading, rot or deterioration, but still have a small area anywhere that is still in good condition, and you don't need/want the parts, I would love to get actual samples of the original colors. I could also send sample colors to you to compare the colors for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have any information on colors not listed, that would help as well. For instance, as I mentioned above, in 76-77, cars with the Light Buckskin interior had a Dark Brown package tray. I refer to this color as Dark Buckskin. If you know of other color combinations like this, let me know.

Here's the list of colors I need help with.

75-76 Dark Blue
77-79 Light Blue
75 Medium Sandstone
75 Dark Saddle
76 Dark Lime
78-79 Dark Green
78-79 Camel Tan
78-79 Carmine

Thanks in advance for any help. I will take into consideration any help you provide in the form of a discount if you should purchase a Package tray in the future.

Thanks Again!
Gary
