Just noticed both front tires are wearing more on the outside.
So I checked the alignment with a Longacre caster, camber gauge.
left side camber 1/2degree,caster 1and 1/2 degree
right side camber5/8degree,caster 2and 3/4 degree
toe 1/8"-3/16"
If anyone can help, I sure would appreciate it .

Thanks.

Are the camber specs + or - ? I just aligned my MII setup with a longacre guage as well. I did alot of digging for specs and found very little agreement on camber specs; anything from +1/2 to -1/2??? I've set my camber to be slightly neg. but very close to 0. Unforunately I haven't had it out for a drive yet.
It would seem to me that too much + caster might cause wear on the outside of the tires but I'm no expert.
BTW did you try checking the alignment with some weight in the driver's seat; it does make quite a difference.

Shawn,
All are + settings.
I thought the more caster you had the straighter the car went ?
Is there a trick to adjust these Heidts front ends or is it me?
I get it set for the camber first , then when I to set the caster , I lose the setting I had for the camber ???

You have the same problems?
What steps did you use?

Thanks

Heidt's recommends the alignment be set to o degrees camber, 1 degree postive caster and 1/16-1/8" toe-in.

Keep in mind that this was the firs time I've tried to do an alignment and I'm embarrassed to say how many hoursssss I spent doing it but how else do you learn.
Tim (Ibuildm) posted heidts specs which I wouldn't conradict other than caster. As you mentioned more + caster will make the car more stable at high speed with the drawback of increased steering effort at low speed. So if your car is mainly a intown cruiser you may want to set the caster as reccomended but if you're running the drags you may want to run more. Caster of say 3-4* would probably work well at the track but may make parking at the mall difficult especially if your wife or girlfriend may drive the car.
As far as tricks; hey I'm a totol mewb at this. One thing after you've set the camber and are checking caster make note of the camber reading it will have chnaged because of turning the wheels . Adjust the caster while trying to maintain that camber reading. Also don't try to simply adjust the caster with the rear of the control arm, I found I had to fiddle with front as well. I seem to remember that moving the front of the control arm say 1/4*(camber) would change the caster about 1* and vice versa; move the caster 1* with the rear of the control arm and the camber would change about 1/4*; so about a 4:1 ratio but don't hold me to that :).
I don't know what alignment shops use to pry the control arm with but that to me was the biggest pain. I had to jack the car up sometimes to get the weight off so I could move things.
Seriously; best of luck :).

Thanks all , for your help.
After work I came home and reset the camber to 0 and the caster to 1and 1/2 degree positive . Same both sides.
I will reset my TOE tomorrow night , or at least check to see what it is , I don't think it should change much.
I hope this takes care of my tire wear.
Oh, has anyone " strung "a car to set the toe ?
I heard of this somewhere.

Thanks again!!!
