The spindle nut that preloads the bearings in the rotor, what is the correct torque for this nut?

I just get it till there's no slop in the bearing (grab the rotor and rock back and forth and up and down, rotate, then rock until no play) then get the castle nut to line up with the cotter pin hole. I've had no problems with my 69 Nova that's seen probably 130mph and my 67 wagon that I've put 30,000 miles on.

I use 12 ft/lbs. on my '69.

I've never used a torque wrench on anything but engine parts. I've never seen a front end guy use a torque wrench on a spindle either. I do it like Aron, only I go kinda tight and then back it off to align the cotter pin. I keep the Nova's a little on the loose side so there's less drag, but on my street cars I go tighter.

If you are using a brake kit with aluminum hubs they need to be even looser. The aluminum expands more than cast iron when hot and makes the bearings tighter. I just emailed Wilwood asking them the correct method to adjust their bearings. I will let you know what they say.
