Im buying a 74 nova....i noticed that when i rode/looked at it that the right side seems to sag/rub more than the left...could this be a leaf spring prob or is it worse?

It could be the spring, or the rubber bushings, or a comination of both. My 72 has the same problem, and it's nevef been hit and has no rust. Check it out real good though.

ill check that out...its not real noticable...i could just tell that the tire was rubbing a little more on the right than the left....body looks pretty straight as far as i can tell...Im really buying this thing to try to get into classic cars so I am in the learning stages....I think im getting a decent deal on the car...so ill see how it goes.....Its a 74, good basically stock 350 engine other than a edlebrock carb and intake...which are probably overkill on it and it has a decent th350 in it...minimal body rust, trunk pan has some rust though.. and its pretty much totally stripped out...the guy told me he would take 2k for it so I decided to go ahead and get it.

thats odd my car sits high on the left side:rolleyes::D:D

its probably just the spring. usually what causes it to sag on the right side is cause thats the power side so over time from taking off that spring wears out faster and starts sagging.

see if it has AIR shocks, i bet it does and that side is LOW.
just my 2 cents.

My 74 does the exact same thing with shot bushings and shot leafsprings. I had the car 2 feet off the ground last winter to replace the th350. 4 jackstands on each subframe end. One of the tires hung down a few inches lower then the other. Can't remember which one.

I have new bushings. Planning on new leaf springs so I'm going to wait to put the bushings in.

i dont know what air shocks you have used but all the ones i have seen are connected so that they have the same air pressure, unless someone deliberately cut the line and hooked up another valve

if the leaf's have never been replaced, good chance that its. if you take them out, be careful and keep your feet/toes out of the way as after you disconnect them and hit them with a hammer to loosen them up, they typicall fall especially if they are broke. if they are original and the car has some/many miles on it, the arch has probably left and very possibly the leaf's are cracked/broken.

my 68 had the same issue. i replaced the bushings and it still
set lower on rear pass. side. i replaced the leaf springs and it solved the problem.

my 71 did that until I changed out the leaf springs and the rear bushings..front has solid mounts do to caltrac bars..

The way you've seen them is the correct way, but MANY people will plumb each air line in separately for whatever reason.
Equalizing the pressures is the smart thing to do, IMHO. But the smartest thing of all is to NOT use them at all :D
Most people just use them as a bandaid...a nova isn't a truck, so their intended use is pretty null as well IMHO--it should never be overloaded to begin with!

i dont think ill ever use them again. unless i have really good suspension. cause i think thats why i wrecked that 77.
cause when it started to slide out it didnt give or have any roll to it so i was having trouble straightening it out and by the time i got it straightened out the truck hit. iwas running 80 pounds and forgot to let some out when the rain started. and with only 80 pounds it didnt give at all when you forced down on the back even kinda hop on the bumper the only movement was the bounce in the tires.

sorry for long post but i thought people should read this.
cause ive kept my 75 from spinning out on ice and have always been able to control it. and it has that v8 with rv cam, the 77 was the little inline.

well, i got under the car today....and the bushings on both sides are shot...i have found out though, now that the car is in my driveway...that it leans to what ever side has the most weight on it....the left is lower now haha...im guessing i need new leafsprings and shocks too....might as well do it all at once....

My car right now has multi-leaf springs......should i replace them with multi leaf or go to mono leaf? what are the adv/disadvantages to each?

Also, part numbers for these pieces would be helpful hahah!!!!

WOW! I know this is an old thread but I have the same concern. My 62 leans to whatever side has weight on it and say for instance I get in the driver side it will sag to that side. Even when I get out it still sags that way until I sit in the passenger side then it will sag that way. I have monos on the rear now and recently picked up some multis and was also wondering the pros and cone to both. Will I gain some payload and or ride height with the multis? Right now it seems that the car sits way too low when I just fill the gas tank full. Seems to me like my current stock monos are toast. I may also look into the shocks both front and rear. Anyway, if someone can give some pros and cons to both mono and multi leaf springs it would be greatly appreciated.
