Disc swap woes...

so i went down to cpp and got my mini sub-frame kit and disc conversion using my stock spindles. the sub went in easy, the uppers are ordered, so i decided to start on the discs and i am now stuck. i mounted the caliper bracket with the hardware it came with and it seems weird the way it fit, and then i put the rotor on and it hits the top bolt of the caliper bracket. can anyone tell what i did wrong by these pictures? ive tried evry variation, without the washer the bolt wont screw in all the way and its the shortest bolt in the hardware bag.

I ordered the big brake kit from cpp on Monday, they told me that i had to use a disc brake spindle. My 71 has drum front and back, they said that i could use my stock spindle but would have to machine something on the spindle for everything to fit right. I'm no nova guru but thats what cpp had told me.

cpp has a kit that uses stock spindles.. i have the kit on my 70.. i ran into the same problem with that particular bolt.. i shaved the head down just a bit..doesnt need a ton of clearance.. you can always call those guys at cpp also..they are very helpful with questions.. you could also ask patman.. he did a write-up on a disc swap with cpp kit..

I think one of the CPP guys who hangs out here says that they suggest shaving that bolt head down in cases like this. I know this isn't the first time I've read that suggestion.

This brake kit does not require grinding, from your pictures it is clear CPP made a mistake and sent you the wrong washer/spacer. Please do not grind the bolt head. The washer you have under the bolt is not for that kit. We have a new person being trained in our shipping department, he pulled a spacer used for the 1959-1964 Impala brake kit, instead of the ½” flat washers that you need. I have all the correct hardware sitting here for you. Please send me a private message with your contact information so that I can get this fixed as quickly as possible. I apologize for the headaches this mistake has caused you.

Sincerely, Danny Nix

An example of good customer service. It would be nice if this was the norm for more companies.

Sorry to Danny about the rant I posted about CPP's poor customer service on another thread. I probably got stuck with someone else who had no clue about CPP's products. There are good and bad at all companys.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the bolt boss that should be ground on a stock spindle, no? Or buy the disc spindles. Also, I didn't notice the backing plate there, or maybe you were just mocking it up first, backing plate later.

yeah no joke. i went down to pick up some more parts and they gave me all the right hardware and its all together now. all that is left is running the new brake lines.

i ended up installing the mini-sub upper and lowers, new poly spring perches, drop springs, kyb shocks, and then the disc swap. should be a world off difference. thanks cpp.
