74 doors to 70 doors

Has anyone ever converted 73-74 doors to put a wing window in to convert it to a 70 door?

I can't afford 200 for a good 70 passenger door and I own a decent 73 door so I thought I would bounce it off the forum.

Thanks

It is possible, and there was a thread on it a while back..

IIRC, there are a few modifications that need to be made involving window crank location, door lock location, and drilling holes for the wing window.
Not a quick and easy undertaking, but it is possible.

Might wanna try the search function...but I think the thread is so old it's probably long gone.

This is an easy swap, you only need to drill the holes for the wing window and for the door panel. The modifications referred to above for the door lock location are specific to the '68 models. I'm not aware of any modifications for the window crank location.

One thing to be aware of is that the '74 doors probably have 'crash-bars' inside of them. I believe that was new for '74, as the '73 and older doors did not have them. It's fairly easy to tell, just pick one up - if it's heavier than it appears, it's probably got the bars. If it does, I'd pass. The bars are difficult to remove without hurting the door, and the extra weight will ruin your hinge pin bushings in short order.

Don't know if the 73-74 window reg. will work. I know there longer because of the larger glass. You also need the glass. I did the oppsite of you. I took my 69 doors and eliminated the vent windows and put in the 73-74 glass..

Why not just swap in some 68-72 doors instead?

Honestly, He is probably asking about the 73-74 doors as the 68-72 doors are getting harder to find. I speak from experience. It took me 6 months to find a Spotless rust free door for my 69. Good ole Fed-Ex took care of me as the door was lost in a fire during shipping. The Truck burned to the ground. Needless to say I ended up buying a NOS door skin.

It would probaly be cheaper just to search for the 68-72 doors.

Finding a Rust free 68-72 door is alot harder then ya think. Most of them have rust in the corners or the skin has pin holes along the bottom. I looked at 9 of them and everyone of them had rust. I have seen 73 to 74 doors on ebay going for half the price of a 68-72 door.

They sell the nova door shells now. Don't know how good the quality is though. Still needs all the guts and windows to go with it.

69novass has it nailed they are hard to find. I bought 3 doors 2 70 and 1 73 or 74 I think it is a 74 because it is heavier than I want to lift. The 70 doors were beat up the other was in good shape no rust or any dents. That why I asked.

Thanks
