I just noticed when filling up that gas was leaking from the front right of the gas tank - so I looked and there is a 3/8 hose hanging out that is not hooked to anything - and gas is running out of it - anyone have a exploded ( no pun intented) view picture of the gas tank and sender and hose routing for a 70 350 SS - appreciate it

Sounds like the return line was not hooked up, possibly because the fuel pump doesn't have a provision for one??? That's my best guess, but the return line should only be 1/4" as the primary feed line is only 5/16". I don't think a 350/300 engine gets a 3/8" line

no return line on the car - I am thinking the line is EEC - but the car does not have a vapor canister - need to pull the back seat I guess and get to the bottom of this... think i may just but a non-eec tank and be done with it..

It could be an EEC line. In '70, only the CA cars had the EEC, other states got it in '71, so I don't think pulling the back seat will be helpfull. Just pop the trunk and look at the seat back area, if the little box is there, than it's an EEC car - sans charcoal cannister.
Otherwise, if it's not an EEC car, then someone installed an EEC pickup in the car - I think. My memory is poor, but I believe the EEC stuff for the gas tank was all contained in the pickup, and there were no extra lines installed directly into the tank itself. If your lucky, you will only have to change the pickup assy.
Finally, check the cap, if it's an EEC tank, the cap will be non-vented. If you change the pickup to be non-vented, and the cap is non-vented, you might suck the tank in from the fuel pump suction. IE: you'll need a new tank!

Yenko pretty well summed it up. It turns out that all the pipes coming out of the tank are in the same order as the pipes coming out of the evaporative thing that goes behind the rear seat in a '71 at least...did any of that make sense?. If you do not have one of those things, count yourself lucky and just seal off the pipe that is leaking.

Just so you know all V8 cars got 3/8's line 6's & 4's got the 5/16" line.

well, rather than being sorry, I just went ahead, ordered a new tank, new straps, and new pick-up/sending unit and a vented cap...- all for a non-eec ( the car is 49 state car) - that should just about fix it!

A lot of times that is the best way to fix a problem. Just replace the whole thing. Else you could be screwing with it for days!
