I have all new breaks in my 68. I can not bleed them. The master is bled but all it dose now is push air back and forth. Is there somthing I am doing wrong? I can not seem to get fluid past the master. Thanks

How are you bleeding the master? If it's a rebuild, they have been know to be fubar'ed right out of the box.

Are you using "speed-bleeders" or do you have a helper? Are you closing the bleeder after you push and hold the pedal down?

If you leave the bleeder open and then push the pedal all you will be doing is moving the fluid back and forth as you mentioned.

to bench bleed a master cylinder you'd use a master fitting that has the tube located back in the reservoir. two of 'em... most of the time a new/rebuilt master has them in the box with the unit... push on the rod or insert a phillips screwdriver in the piston and press slowly untill there's no more bubbles...

once the system (master) is bled as you go to bleed the wheels try removing the bleeders first and confirm the bleeder holes are open. i've seen numerous times sentiment builds up in the bleeders and hardens, basically blocking off the bleed hole. use a paperclip to open up the holes or replace the bleeders...

hope i helped ;)

The master is bled and I do have a helper. I have bled many cars from completely new everything to just new masters or wheel cylinders. This one is just busting my B:DS

Ed i know what ya mean... Klean63 Bill came over to help me bleed the JollyRodder and i think it took about 2-3 hours. once we had fluid at the RR wheel things went a bit faster... but it DID seem ta take forever.

keep at it Bud, we have good faith in ya ;)

I had the same problem on my 72. Replaced everything front to back and took forever to get a good pedal. Bleed the master on the car and open all the bleeder screws and gravity bleed them and once your getting fluid out of all 4 then pressure bleed them again.Hope this helps.

If the new master came with a new pushrod, check the length against the old one. I got a new master with a too short pushrod and it wouldn't actuate the master sufficiently.

Did You Try To Gravity Bleed Them First? Sometimes That Saves A Lot Of Grief. Also, Is The Combination Valve Closed? If It Is, You'll Get Nothing To The Rear Wheels No Matter How Hard You Try. Hope This Helps, Doug

This is what I made so I could bleed brakes myself. I used a 5 gal. bucket with a lid and a 1/4" barb in the lid. I used clear tygon hose from the bleeder on the car to the barb on the bucket. I taped the shop vac hose to the hole in the lid with duct tape. All the brake fluid falls into the bucket. Just wach for the bubbles to stop in the tygon hose and your done.

Hope this helps, Big Fran

I had a ton of trouble bleeding brakes on my omega, when someone suggested 'gravity bleeding'.

After gravity the back, then the front .... it was a night and day difference.

I'm sure I'd still be pumping otherwise ... : )

I just did mine the other day after a new disc setup and master. It took a LONG time. Went through a whole qt of fluid bleeding before any pedal.
...I installed new everything, first I hooked it up backwards, the front brakes went to the front port and back to back....= backwards, stupid me.
hours of BS they finally work awesome.

make sure your bleeders are on top and not on the bottom.
how do i know this, i'll never tell:o:D
after trying for hours to bleed my brakes, another member mentioned to make sure i put the calipers on with the bleeders on top. i never knew this ? i guess i got lucky the previous times i changed calipers. funny thing is is that i had a licensed mechanic helping me and he didn't even realize my goof up. i guess he took for granted i knew what i was doing lol.
from what i hear, others have done this also. i don't like to admit it, but if it helps someone else, then i'll admit my embarrasement:o

Do you have power brakes? the reason I ask is when i did the bakes on my 69 I had my wife in the car, and after an hour ( we can bleed a race car at the shop in 10 minutes) I asked her if she was pushing the pedal all the way down, she said yes, finally I got in the car and pushed as hard as I could on the pedal and the fluid came shooting out of the bleeder you have to push real hard it feels like the pedal is bottomed out, but its not, the brakes will bleed very fast and you will have a very good pedal...Bruce
