3rd Gen Question

My friend is swapping out his inline 6 for a 400 small block. I remember reading somewhere that his FRAME mounts dont need to be changed, but only the engine part of the mount needs to be changed....just need to verify that.

1969 Nova, 250 to 400 swap.

Thanks :D

The mounts that are part of the subframe will not need to be changed, just the actual hardware attached to the engine.

I believe that's what you're saying. If it is, that is correct.

Summit Racing sells an Energy Suspension kit that's $55.00 and it's Poly so it'll last forever.

Sweet conversion

I don't believe the frame mounts from a 6 will work with a V-8.

yes, the frame-side mounts also get changed.

On my 70, the previous owner went from a 6 to a V8 and he used the stock mounts. It is rigged pretty bad, and looks like sh*t, but it works.

This is exactly what I got told by people, one says it will work the other says it wont haha.

I dont know, any other Nova Guru's know?

I did some searching around and I found a thread saying the 4th gen nova frame mounts do not need to be changed, are they the same as a 3rd gen? If thats the case they don't need to be changed lol :D

Told ya soo....neener neener neener!

The only reason I know this is because my car came with an inline 6 and I changed it to a 383 with ZERO fab.

I've parted out both 6-cyl cars and SB V-8 cars.

The frame mounts are not the same. The V-8 frame mounts are also reproduced, so you can easily get the correct items that you'll need to do it right.

Thanks Guys, I'll pass the info along to him, we'll probably just shove it in there and try out the stock 6cyl mounts for giggles.

I would change the frame mounts, they might 'bolt up' to a V8, but that does not mean that they will work. I've done the 6-8 swap, for a few bucks and 6 bolts - change 'em out, it's less headache in the long run.

I did this swap and changed out the frame mounts.

The L6 and v8 frame mounts are very different.

Its also possible to install the v8 frame mounts on the wrong side.

If you want to do it RIGHT change the mounts. Or do it the way the others do it and wonder why everthing fits like crap. It's the same as putting a BB in where a SB was, sure the headers will fit...With a BFH:eek::rolleyes:

Weird,

I swapped out an L6 for a V8 (305) in my 74 Omega, and I only had the change the mounts on the motor, the frame mounts were fine.
