Yea Im getting ready to start on one for a good friend of ours, He helped us make alot of parts for my car.

My dad painted this car 10+ years ago and the paint is still A+ so it just needs some upgrades.

18' wheels
13' or 14' brakes
Mini-tub
Roll bar
DSE subframe or speed 3 kit
DSE Q-link in the back
and some other sweet upgrades.

should be done by winter!

It acutally wasn't an "Official" test mule for them but I remember seeing it for sale and called the guy. Apparently he worked for DSE and they were using his car to test out some 3rd gen parts. It was painted Royal blue with DSE tubs and some other assorted goodies that I can't remember. Lemme see if I find it.......

Well the plan is now,

DSE Mini-Tub
DSE Q-Link
DSE Speed 2 or 3 kit
13' 12' brakes
17 and 18 Budnik's
Roll cage ( I allways wanted one in my car! lol)
DSE wiper motor
and some other goodies!

He just wants to do the upgrades, and leave the paint, its still A+ and my dad painted it in 93'

so shouldnt take to long to get it knocked out!

I imagine after putting all that work into them they just putt to the car show... hehehehehe I want something that'll haul @**** on the curvy two-lane back roads, open track days, and auto-X. Can you guys give me any insight after building these nice cars?? thanks:chev:

HOW DO THEY HANDLE CORNERS??? Are they comparable to a new Camaro? Corvette? I'm just wondering if it would be a waste of time to try and rework the stock suspension, or if I would be better off to go go full tube frame, nascar style?? I don't want to put a bunch of money and time into something and come up short of my goals

Will they be comparable to a new Camaro or Corvette? Sure, with enough time and money you can make it handle like a go-kart!(Just lift the body and put it on a go-kart!)
Your first question should be "What do I want to do with the car?" Do you want to Auto-X it and run some Open Track days as you stated in your first post? If so, what percentage of the time that you will be driving the car will these events take place? In other words, will this car be dedicated to that or is it going to be a 10% Track/Auto-X 90% Street?
If you're going to set it up for Auto-X/Track mostly then a full tube chassis would be a good move. If your just going to run it mostly on the street and take it to a few events a year then I would look into tweaking the springs and shocks along with STICKY TIRES! Run with that and if you don't like the way it handles then you can start getting into relocating the upper arms, Taller spindles heavier duty sway bars, 3 link rear, etc. I think this would be the best bang for your buck, as you stated you wanted in your post!

John

BTW Andrew Petty has real world experience in this arena! When he suggests something? Listen!

I dont know how my car would do On the Auto-x track or Open track days All I know is with the Hotchkis springs Bilstein shocks and 1 1/8 sway bar It will take a corner 200% better than stock. I have not found the limits of my 255-45 rear tires yet and it is not overly harsh to drive. I was going to do the Guldstrand mod but I just dont feel I need it yet.

I think Mr Petty is running about the same springs and swaybar as me. He has been Auto-Xing his car and having a great time. Wish I had some events near me so I can kill some cones. I dont see the need for mini tubs and 335 tires unless you are doing some hardcore racing.

Thats what I wanted to hear, someones real life experience. I appreciate a response that doesn't quote the last sentence of my question and then ask a question. I explained what I wanted from the car. Performance. No fluff, just a drive like ya stole it everyday hotrod. trackdays, auto-X, and back road cruising. No power windows, ac, door locks, $10,000 paint jobs, no bling bling wheels, stupid loud stereo, or any of that extra stuff. Look stockish and run hard. I've had two 69' Novas, a 54 Dodge pick-up, 76' Luv (400 sbc), I'm tired of compromising on vehicles. The Luv was scary fast, but it was too small, the Novas were plenty roomy, but the door handles drug on hard corners. I've worked on several stock cars and a FED. Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting and raving, I am. I can't find the info I want and I've looked everywhere. Anyway thanks for the time. Everyone on this site is pretty cool.

LOL thanks John. I'm gonna try and not get a big head now.

I'll try and help you out as best I can. If I miss or dont cover something you want to know just ask. First I wouldnt want to compare my car to a new vette(driven one and they are retarded awsome). The answere to your question is gonna depend on how far you take your car. And what route you go with it. My car is fairly simple but works really well for what it is.

A quick list of things done to my car:

-Hotchkis suspension TVS kit (with the hotchkis shocks)
-Energy suspensions on the whole car
-Front end rebuild kit
-16:1 ratio steering box
-Corbeau seats (probly one of my favorite things I did to my car)
-And a agressive alignment (this made one of the biggest differences)
-there are many other things done but they do not matter right now

With just these few things alone most people at the autocross cant believe what they see. But the biggest thing that will make the car work is the guy behind the wheel. I could go on for a hour about how I drive my car around the course, and I'm still learning everytime I'm at a event. I'm gonna have some in-car video from the next autocross on the 26th so I'll post that up and mabe it will help you get an idea.

But with all that said my car is good at a local level. If I were to go to a national tour event I get my but kicked all over the place.

Ok I gotta get back to work. I'll try and add more to this later.

The reason I answered your question with a question is because you're not asking the right question. The car you just described in your last post can come in so many degrees and the variations are endless. This is why I said what I said. You need to narrow down what it is you want to do with the car. Do you want to take it to the ultimate? Full blown chassis repalcement with full race setup. It'll ride like crap on the street but on the track and auto-x you'll be dry humping the wheels. Street car that can perform on the track and auto-x? Again, how much time will it see both versus the street? For you to wrench as much performance out of your car and still strike the balance you want you need to ask yourself these questions first.
It sounds to me like you just want someone to say"Just throw a hotchkiss setup and it'll run like Andretti's car!" What I like and you like may be totally different! Why not try driving a car that has a particular setup that you think may work for you so that you can feel what it is you like and don't like about the car and go from their!
