djfusion_1 1st-August-2007, 05:28 PM I recently swapped my inline 6 for a SB 350 and now I'm having trouble in connecting the kickdown rod to my throttle bracket. The transmission is the stock poerglide from the I6. What am I missing? can I replace the rod with a cable instead? Thanks for your help guys
the FLYER 1st-August-2007, 05:34 PM what's the problem with the connection ??? is the upper rod too short, too long ??? is it the kickdown bellcrank, the lower rod ???
maybe if you can pin it down i can help... get a measurement on the rods if that's the problem and let me know. i think i have 4,5 or 6 sets here in my shop... maybe 3 bellcranks too...
djfusion_1 1st-August-2007, 05:49 PM It's to top of the rod where it connects to the bracket. It points straight up and doesn't go near the carb bracket for a proper fit. When I get off work I will post a pic so you can see the problem I'm having
the FLYER 1st-August-2007, 05:52 PM one end of the rod is pre-bent on a 90* the other end has a threaded 90* for adjustment... both rods are basically the same.
post up some shots and get me measurements (length) i'll see what i can do for ya ;)
djfusion_1 7th-August-2007, 04:34 PM Ok I finally got to post my pictures. Here you can se the kick down rod that has the adjustment thread. This is all I have and I'm having trouble getting the part that connects to the carb. Where can I get one or can one be fabricated?

YENKO DEUCE REG 7th-August-2007, 05:49 PM When I did this swap many, many years ago, I simply downshifted manually to pass as I knew my built 350 was going to wipe out the p-glide anyway. Within a few months, the p-glide was done, and I put a TH350 into it.
A few points of advice with this swap. Toss that rad. hold-down in the trash, and pick up the V8 hold-down (available in repro - cheap), and a SB fan shroud (still available from GM or cheaper from our resident used Nova parts guru's). That silly 6cyl hold-down/shroud won't cool your SB on a hot day. Also, is your timing chain cover missing, or is it a reflection on the chrome?

the FLYER 7th-August-2007, 06:08 PM i can't see a thing in yer images... but then i'm BLIND !!! ;)
so... is what ya need one of these items here ???
one that takes a cotter pin and is for a 1/4 sae thread by chance ??? ;)

the FLYER 7th-August-2007, 08:54 PM Hey, lemme know if this is what yer lookin' for... heck, a postage stamp & envelope are cheap-cheap ;)
just need ta know fer sure if it's what ya need ;)
djfusion_1 7th-August-2007, 10:07 PM Ok FLYER so here are some oictures of what I have right now. I am lost and need help in getting the right part. I can take more pictures just let me know.

Yes my fan shroud arrived today and I just ordered the small block radiator support. And no my timing chain cover isn't missing. It's just the reflection of the chrome. Good eye:)
the FLYER 7th-August-2007, 10:48 PM well it looks to me like you already have the part... slide the clippie thingy off the rod and install it in the carb...
you may need to clearance the carb linkage for the clippie-thingy to fit properly though...
gimme a couple minutes and i'll get ya a shot of my P/Glide set up...
be right back.
djfusion_1 7th-August-2007, 10:55 PM It doesn't move to a propper level to hook it up to the carb. It's too far out. I thing I may need another link piece or something I'm not sure.
the FLYER 7th-August-2007, 10:57 PM that's possible... i'm editing/loading images of all the required parts right now... be just a sec ;)
stand by for just a couple more minutes ;)
the FLYER 7th-August-2007, 11:12 PM OK, on this image i highlighted an area in yellow, you may need to clearance the outer edges of the carb linkage... just on the OD to have room for the clippie to rotate properly and not hang up... minimal only, no damage to carb...
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y258/64Flyer/linkage12.jpg
OK, next shot shows rearward end of same rod as it connects to bellcrank.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y258/64Flyer/throttlelinkage3.jpg
this image shows the rods and bellcrank... the bellcrank bolts to the block after the trans is installed using two of the trans mounting bolts.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y258/64Flyer/throttlelinkage4.jpg
lemme know if i can help further ;)
the FLYER 7th-August-2007, 11:25 PM just an added thought here... all the items i'm showing are early to mid 60's stuff... later years might have had the bellcrank assembly made into the coil bracket...
i don't have an assembly manual for a 3rd genner... some or all of this may not be applicable to your exact year but the concept is the same...
djfusion_1 7th-August-2007, 11:34 PM I tried moving it but that is as far as it goes. I ican't bend or move it to reach the carb. I think I am missing a rod that goes from the carb to the rod connected to the trans. I'm confused.

the FLYER 7th-August-2007, 11:43 PM well... if i'm seeing correctly you have ONE rod which goes behind the engine to the kickdown on the trans... you still need the bellcrank and another rod.
did you install the engine etc (tear down and re-install) or did you buy it as-is ???
djfusion_1 7th-August-2007, 11:52 PM I bought the engine all assembled ad you see there. My mechanic removed the old I6 and dropped the 350 in. Can a Lokar kickdown cable work for this application? I have no problem locating one of those.

AHHHH... OK now i'm a bit more clear...
i think you're missing a part that's specific to the car with a V8. i'm not Absolutely certain, but i think where the coil bolts to the intake there's a bellcrank mounted to that bracket assy...
it may be possible also that the part you need IS like what i have pictured above, if so all we need is confirmation that what i have is what ya need and heck, i'd send it to ya...
i dunno about the Lokar set up. no opinion either way so i'll not say any more on it.
i'd recommend asking the 3rd genner guys for a picture of the necessary items for THAT year car with a V8 & Glide... see exactly what it is and go from there... if they say the Lokar set up is the way ta go then there ya go ;)
sorry if i haven't solved the issue... i tried.
if any of the items i posted are what ya need, send me a PM and i'll hook ya up directly ;)

Thank you much FLYER you've been more than helpful. I got more of an idea on what I need and will get to it tomorrow. Thanks again FLYER.
the FLYER 8th-August-2007, 12:10 AM i think by my replying so many times i may have taken the thread off course or something to that effect... i'd repost and ask for an image of the proper bracket so the guys can help you. i was hoping i could help. i have probably 6 sets of this stuff here and thought i could maybe do a "good deed of the day" sorta thing... but i think what you need is slightly different than what i have... it MIGHT work though so that option i'll leave open to you just in case...
try reposting, i'll keep my busy-body nose out of it and let the guys REALLY help ya.
i wish ya the best, good luck ;)
djfusion_1 8th-August-2007, 12:25 AM ;)sure thing thanks a lot for your info FLYER;)
