Alright here goes, after buying another Nova we've decided to change plans with this one, instead of going with traditional 15" wheels and tires we're going to go with a either 17" wheels or 18" wheels all the way around but I need opinions on what type of wheel would look good for the car. Also with a 17" or 18" what is the widest width you can fit front and rear and what backspacing works. I'm open to suggestions as to what wheel looks the best on the 3rd Gens. I'll post a good side view of the car tonight but for now all I have is this 3/4 view but it'll give ya an idea. Thanks guys!! Badhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/badass70nova/Picture008.jpg

That is a sweet looking car.

As far as the wheels maybe some Coy's, Intro's, or maybe some American Racing Salt Flats.

Don't go any bigger than a 17, if that. How about some Torque Thrusts?

Torque Thrust Ms in black would look great with that painted top.

I personally dont care for 17s or 16s for that matter on the novas when they are stock appearing. My taste would be some Torque thrust ttos with a black tire with a smooth sidewall. Also i think that car would look nice with ss wheels on it.

I do too! That is a great look...why are you going away from it?

I guess the 16" wheels would not be so bad I just don't care for the big gap in the fender wells, I know by going to a 17" or 18" is not going to change the gap but figured it would....oh hell forget it I can't explain myself......Dave, the wheels that are on there are growing on me but I just think that a different style would give the car a little better look. The wheels now remind me of some .50 Cent wheels that have bling all over them instead of being big but classy like the Torque Thrusts. Also I guess I could lower the car down a few inches to lessen the gap in hopes that it would help the overall appearance. What I would really like to do is add a air ride suspension to the thing in the front and rear but those things ain't cheap! Dave you gotta have some 40" rims on your Buggy don't you? Mary just ordered up some 22" rims for her buggy......

No offence, but I don't care for the wheels that are on it now.

I agree with funky about the black AR wheels.

Are we looking at the same car?!?! IMO I think the stance looks good the way it is! I wouldn't lower it, but the air-ride does sound like a nice way to go. Heck, sell off some of your misc parts and that'll cover the cost of the air-ride :D

The only bad thing about this car is after running 7's @ 190 in the other car and now driving this car with a radical :) 307ci. it's almost too much to handle....:D If ya can definetley fill me on your setup.....

Well gotta be honest. I dont like the wheels thats on it, there too busy or " big pimpin" for my tastes, takes away from the car. I was lookin on Jegs and thought these would look great in a 16 or 17.http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_795642_-1_36656

good call on picking out some other rims..needs less tire as well, looks like it has to much tire for that rim...
you can bag it air ride just came out with a rear air bar for our generation...bring your money and lots of it...you can achieve a lowered stance with the right stuff...it will look good lowered thats for sure..if you were to lower it with the tires you have on there now it would rub, atleast in the front

One of my project cars had a vinyl top and I thought about painting the roof instead of replaceing it. I was wondering how it would look.

Your car looks great and I think I will be painting my roof as well. Thanks for posting.

I think you should go with either:

or

They come in 17" & 18" (As well as 15"). I'm debating the same thing.

I don't care for the wheels that are on it now. Too hooptie for me. I agree with a few others. AR Torque Thrusts with black centers. That is a wheel combo I love on these cars. With the black top it would be a nice contrast to the rest of the car. You can do a 17(f)/18(r) combo. Plus they offer alot of backspace options.

They look better than I thought they would. I had a real nice set of 14" on my 69 Camaro(which I loved the look of/old school) and I ended up ditching them because of poor tire selection.

car does look good, but i'm a fan of the bigger wheels as well. i also have a 71 nova yenko tribute car that has 17x7 up front 235/40 and 18x8 275/40 rear. air ride up front and de-arched mono-leafs and 2" lowering blocks in the rear. the stance is sick and there is no tire rubbing in the rear or front. the rear back spacing is 5.25 " the front is 4.75". im running the american racing torq-thrust II painted grey centers. i had the centers re-painted a darker graphite color to match the carbon-fiber hood, carbon fiber rear tail panel, and carbon fiber yenko badges. i have researched the wheel/tire combo question for a long time. this combo works with no problems and looks killer.:nascar:

New to the site, first post. I too am looking to change the now 12 yr old cragar 15"s on my '71 Nova and am looking for ideas. I'm thinking 17"s too and would like something black. Anyone got any pics of their rides with black wheels...maybe those torque thrusts with the black centers or how about some black steelies of some sort. I was almost thinking a set of black Bart racing wheels would look pretty slick.....don't think they come in anything but 15"s though.
