I'm thinking about getting a new 5 inch tach and I would like to see how they look mounted. Picks please as to were you mounted yours in you're street monster?

I had a monster tach for my '72...used it for about a week. Too large for a car that sees regular street use, IMO.

It was pretty much too large to mount anywhere but on top of the dash...then it was so big it took up too much of your view of the road.

Then I swapped to a SunPro tach (2 5/8") an attached it to the column. It was small enough to be out of the way of the speedo, but still be able to see. A 33 3/8 would've worked as well.

Now, they're all gone and I've got a factory in-dash tach.

IMHO, leave the 5" tach's for cars that really *need* them...they look way out of place, unless accompanied by a BIG slick and a roll cage.
It seems to be some sort of fad around here (having a 5" tach). I pass jacked up fords and toyota, hondas and acuras, and tons of stock camaro's with huge tach's mounted in the center of the dash....makes me gag a little each time.

You've got the factory tach, right? Why not just discreetly hook up a shift light and call it a day. Then, you can still gauge your rpm's...but it'll be impossible to miss a shift with a BIG led blinding you....and you won't have some HUGE tach taking up most of your view.

Again, just my honest opinion.

That was sorta my feelings too but, I was not sure if I was point or not. I have the stock in dash tach and it works its just not as visible as I would like.

Have it rotated so I can see my range without any interference. Can see 0-7 range perfectly.

Tach is screwed in the dash/dashpad mounting hole.

i will have to try and take a picture but i have my tac mounted under the dash just to the right of my knee and the shift light in the middle right behind the wheel works for me only thing thats not much fun is trying to stage it at the same time but i have a s/w shift light that blinks if your below and is solid on if your above whatever you set it to stage at also has a tac display inbetween the leds so really you wouldnt even need a tac

I find my Tach too big as well,a 3 3/8" would probally do better.

Installed on the part of the column that rotates for reverse lockout..drops out of the way when you shut off the car...

I'd put a tach down low, and a shift light in a clear veiwing area.

I did the same with a 5" Monster and a shift lite, it rotates down with the collar when I put it in reverse. I also wired it with quick disconnects, so I can remove it quickly. Recently, I removed it altogether, and shifted by 'feel' - I did much better :D

Mine is mounted to the top of the column by a big hose clamp. No drilling required.

We put the tach in the dash on our 68 BB car...it installed where the clock normally resides...works good and looks factory. You can get them from NNN. Sorry no pic...

Hey Little Red Wagon, it looks like the B&M logo on your shift knob spins freely. So does mine and my dads.:D

I personally like the stock location. I bought my car and it had a chewed up dash out of a granny car. So I made it how I wanted as a "test" dash. I grabbed a beautiful SS dash out of my uncles 73 car and that's what I'll be using when I fix my car up. I don't know if I have the heart to chew up the nice SS dash though.

My current tach is a 2" with an LED backlight(8 different colours, ricer style :p). It's mounted on the tach delete plate so it bolts in place and can easily be swapped out for a stock tach. Works great and the fit was absolutely PERFECT!

I think it adds a new look to an old setup.

Here's a picture. Not the best but it shows the location. As you can tell my interior is very ratty. Haven't gotten the cash to redo it yet. Student on a budget.

Interior Guages (http://www.renowneddesign.net/nova/spring_07/guages_installed.JPG)

That's the best picture I have. Kinda blury and the cammera flash brightens up the guages. They don't stick out that much when you sit in the car.

I also like the stock location for a tach. The clock was no longer running so I put a VDO tach on the place.

It's a "swissnova" without miles speedometer.

200Km/h are 125 miles/h

Greetings,

I did it the easy way: Up on the dash and easy to see! I didn't mind putting two bolts through my new dashpad at all.

I have a, I think 3+ inch sunpro with a small shift light. And I have a big proform shift light just below the tach. I guess theres a reason for an enormous tach, I haven't found it yet.
