Poly Spring Bushings not Fitting

I have a 62 Nova and bought Energy Suspensions rear spring bushing kit and am having a real problem with the front of the spring. The bushings and spring will not fit up into the spring bracket if the bushings are pre installed into spring. Also I have a Nova assembly manual and it shows the original way is to install the spring into the hanger with the inboard bushing in the spring and when up inside the hanger then install the outward bushing through the large hole in the spring hanger. But the poly bushing is to large in diameter to do this and being the material it is, it won't give enough to force it through. I need help!
Thanks

I had that problem as well. I used a utility knife to make a slight chamfer on the outer edge of the bushings and was then able to force them in with a floor jack .

I had trouble with them too but mine were for a gen 3 Nova. I have access to a lath and I cut mine down a little on the OD. We use to use alot of different types plastic at work and many absorb moisture and will swell up. I figured my poly bushing did so I cut them down. RM

I had a similar issue with my 3rg gen...I used the same method as Shawn63, except rather than trimming them I just lubed the heck out of them and slipped them in with persuasion  ;)

I used a ton of lube and a bench vice and they finally went in.:D

I did use a floor jack to try to force them in but all I was doing was lifting that side of the car up. I guess I will lube the hell out of them and trim a little off the edges and see what happens.

I had the exact same problem on my 64. It lifted up the car, Ended up grinding off and beveling the edges and using a floorjack and tons of lube and screw drivers and they finally went in. Now I'm afraid of taking them out. I'm definatly gonna toss those in the trash and buy another brand when I swap springs.

I used lots of lube and a C-Clamp to get the bushings in. I also had to shave the bushings down with a grinder to get them down to the stock bushing size. This allowed me to use the original sized hardware for the car. I also had to order new sleeves for the front bushings since the kit's sleeves were 1/16" too small on the ID.

It boggles my mind that big companies like this can't get it right. :(

Does any other company make these bushings?

Yes, ESPO. http://www.espo.com/
I hear pretty good stuff about their products.
I have a set waiting to be installed. I'll probably get it done this weekend.
I'll keep you posted.
Wish me luck.:)

I know a good trick with stock rubber bushings is to keep them in the fridge before installing them so the rubber is shrunk down a bit. Does this work with the poly bushings? I have a set of Energy Systems bushings on the way.

I installed a set of Energy poly bushings on my 67's replacement multi-leafs and didn't experience these kinds of issues.

Maybe they've retooled and messed things up sometime in the last two years.
