Well i found a tall deck 427 cheap, will that fit in my 69.
Just wondering since its taller will it clear my brake booster?
How much taller is this motor compared to a reg. 427?
Anyone used this motor before?

You can use them. The deck is about 5/8 of an inch higher than a car block. (The best I remember) Most of the time they are used when you use a stroker crank. You will need a different intake made for them or spacers for a normal intake. The factory pistons were 4 ring and very heavy, and the heads are crappy. Pushrods are longer, the valve train was the same except for the pushrods, none of the heads or valves were worth keeping. All of them I ever saw were all 4 bolt with steel cranks. Make sure it isn't a 366 before you buy it. They were the same engine with a smaller bore. Even if it is the crank and main caps are worth keeping.

What kind of spacer do you use on the intake?
Will other bigblock heads work on this block...like 454 heads??

You'll need custom made headers too; I'd find a standard deck block, you'll be happier in the long run.

I thought you could get a t-deck 427 cut down in order to use the standard deck components, would that work?

ummm only if there was a "spare" .625" of extra deck material in the block...(not to likely)..I think that is about what you would have to mill off of the deck to do that..;)

I thought you could get a t-deck 427 cut down in order to use the standard deck components, would that work?No that would mean the top inch of the block would have to be solid. Remember the bolts holding the heads on screw into the deck surface. If you milled that much off the bolts holes would probabably be gone. I would guess the cylinders would be standing open like the did on the Vega block.

Ok, I guess I didn't realize that they were that 'tall', a 1/2" is a lot of material!

9.8" is a std. deck height MK-4. 10.2" is a tall Deck Truck Block, allowing for an extra compression ring, actually only 3/8" difference, at least that is what I believe to be correct? Aftermarket or Chevy Performance longer distributor if used with truck intake, Intake or spacers such as Holley #8204 spacer kit for use with std. intake on std. block, not recommended, requires 2 intake gasket sets, more chances for leaks? Probably would require a driver side corvette BB valve cover with concave? As mentioned, different exhaust set-up with tall block? Truck heads are small valved, small intake & exhaust ports etc. The crank is good! At least this might be some things to consider?

The crank's as good as any L88 crank. The rest is more trouble than it's worth unless it's going in a rear engine dragster.
