KEITH'S75CUSTOM 22nd-May-2007, 01:00 PM if you wanted the leafs on top of the rear end like newer trucks how could that be done cost effectively. cause i dont like the looks of shackles. so if you had the springs on top you could use those lowering blocks to raise it to exact heights. it looks like the brackets on the trucks are just bolted and not welded. so is there somewhere to buy those brackets or would they have to be from the junk yard.?
Bscman 24th-May-2007, 01:13 AM It's reffered to by offroaders as SPOA (Spring over axle) lift...
I helped a buddy do one on his samurai...un bolt the rear end and pull it out. Flip it 180, and reinstall it on the other side of the spring. Piece of cake...
Keep in mind, however, you'll be fighting spring wrap and wheel hop even worse going SPOA. Not a good idea, IMHO.
Mike Goble 24th-May-2007, 07:48 AM What does 'Flip it 180, and reinstall it on the other side of the spring' mean?

That's when it sits real high and looks stupid and has multiple reverse gears and only one forward.

Exactly! If you did it that way, you would need a reverse cut R&P.:geek:
71SS454 24th-May-2007, 12:35 PM To do that, you'd have to cut the spring perches off the rear end and reweld them on the top of the rear end. It will raise the rear of the car 4 inches and will create alot of spring wrap up problems, ill handling, and look really bad to boot. Just buy a set of new springs for your car. If you buy the cheapie generic replacement springs, they'll be 5 leaf and will raise the rear of your car around 2 inches from stock.
Scooter 24th-May-2007, 12:48 PM If it causes such bad wheel hop why do trucks have that setup? Is there something different about trucks that allows it to work better? Or do trucks just have wheel hop problems regardless?
KEITH'S75CUSTOM 24th-May-2007, 12:54 PM i was talking just put the spring on top and adding a bracket to hold it in place and keep the stock bracket on cause it holds the shock. and just put u bolts over the spring and down into the original spring mount like how the doge trucks are. i dont think the spring wrap would be to bad considering this is how my stepdads 99 ram 1500 is and it has the 360 magnum motor in it and 4x4. i guess ill just use high arc springs

KEITH'S75CUSTOM 24th-May-2007, 08:30 PM it makes it easier to get the exact hight you want without ugly shackles showing, because you can use lowering/lifting blocks to lift it to any height you want. and it tucks the springs out of view. i think it would give it a cleaner look and focus more on body lines than tall springs and shackles. but thats just my opinion and wierd way of thinking

Well actually the springs will stay right where they are just as visible as they are now. With the axle on the spring that is as low as it will go and lifting blocks will only raise the rear higher. Give it a try, but i think you will see why most people here think it is a bad look for the Nova, regardless of generation.
KEITH'S75CUSTOM 25th-May-2007, 01:09 AM i dont know its just my thought process as you can see its wacked alittle

Hey Kid,
You should really go to school to be a fabricator.....You have some very unusual/innovative ideas. You should put them to work.It seems like your mind is always spinning! And thats a really good thing!!Go out and make some real money with these ideas!!bm

Pro-touring72 25th-May-2007, 01:24 AM OH no dude dont please. The High jacked look when out with disco balls. It is also worthless for traction and as stated wheel hop.

i know my mind is always spinning, if i wrote down everything that crossed my mind that i could do to a car id be on the site more than johnny rotten:D
i think the rear suspension idea would go good with my tree pot fan shroud i made or maybe the hard top convertible idea.
or an airconditioner that mounts in the trunk and blows through the speaker holes in the package tray. that way you can have ac in a ac delete or pre ac car and still look original.
i also like my dome light that i relocated to the trunk so that i can find my tools or groceries at night..
or my speakers i mounted under the back seat hooked to the springs that way i dont clutter up my floors or trunk with them and to keep the metal vibration sound out by suspending them from the springs.
and many more bouncing around up there:D i need to do something that uses these ideas to make some money cause right now they are just collecting in my mind and notebook. wasting space

If you want to see approximately the finished look, jack up the rear of your car until the fender directly above the wheel has been raised an amount equal to the 3" of the axle tube plus the height of the perches added to the thickness of your springs and pads. This could be about 5"-6" or so.
John65ss 25th-May-2007, 09:30 PM :D :shh: interesting thread.
