Um......is this a question as to if you can use the 76 novas disc brakes?

If so, no. The fourth gen novas use a spindle for front steer and the third gens use rear steer. In other words, the draglink that connects the steering box to the spindles to steer are located behind the spindles, and on fourth gen (75-79) they are mounted in front of the spindle.

I have heard you can use the stock drum spindles, but not in stock form. You will need to have the one area the bolt goes into machined down.

"I've gotten a lot of questions about the difference between a Camaro disc brake spindle and a drum brake spindle.

On the left, you can see the upper bolt hole boss is between .400 to .480" SHORTER than the lower mount.holes, the disc spindle is TALLER than the lower flange.

I have two spindles and one is .400" and the other is .480" . The hole size is the same as a drum spindle, and the threads start at the face of the upper mount.

I have been t old by others the drum brake spindle boss is around .610" taller than the disc brake spindle. If you shorten your drum brake spindle by .610" the disc components should fit. I don't have a drum brake spindle to measure so I can't verify that measurement.

This is a factory 67-69 disc brake spindle.

A drum brake spindle has a longer upper boss. On the drum brake application the hole is used for a brake shoe anchor pin." Unquote

Here is great info: http://www.pozziracing.com/brakes.htm#Converting_Drums_to_Discs

I have seen where the upper boss is only .550" instead of the .610 stated.

I Have never done this before so I can't say with absolute clarity what is the procedure, If I were to hazarded a guess I would say to measure the drum spindel then find a bud with a disk spindle. I know that Dorman ( https://www.dormanproducts.com ) sells the brackets and dust shields and releated parts for the conversion. just buy the 1972 nova stock stuff.

I completed this conversion on my '73 just a few weeks ago. Used the brackets, calipers and dust shields from a '71 ElCamino and bought the rotor and master cylinder from local auto parts. The easiest way to cut the boss down is to bolt the bottom of the caliper bracket to the mount and slide it around to where it connects the upper boss. This gives you the exact place to cut the upper boss; I used a 4" electric grinder with a cutoff installed. On one side I had to trim the upper bolt because the boss wasn't threaded deep enough and I didn't have that big of a tap for it.

I did the conversion over two nights in my garage after work. Piece of cake...
