71 with 15X7 wheels, buying the wheels today and need to know what back spacing would be good up front....have hotchkis 2 inch lowering springs...i dont want to hit the fender or frame at full steering in either directing, was guessing about 3.5 any experience?

I have 15x7's up front with 4 1/4" backspace, and 215/65/15's that don't rub at full lock, even over bumps. I'd imagine a pair of 225/60/15's would work as well, as they'd be slightly shorter but slightly wider...they might, however, rub slightly at full lock (on the subframe).
Before this, I had a pair of 14x7's with 3 3/4" backspace and 235/60/14's fit perfectly..but they stuck out just far enough that rock chips started to become an issue (daily driver).
FWIW, my car is lowered approx 2" from stock (72 nova).
If I did it all over again, I'd run 225/60/15's on a 15x7 w/ 4" backspace. This way they're tucked in enough I wouldn't have as much to worry about (rock chips) but still a touch further out from the car so 235's *might* fit in the future.
Remember, though...each car is a little different, so what works for one might not work for another. The best way to know for sure is to MEASURE. Remember, you if you get too much backspace you can always shim them out a touch...if your get wheels that stick out too far, you're hosed.
