Hi all:
I tried to do a search on this subject, but came up empty. I need to install new roof rail weatherstripping on my '72, or I guess that is what it is called. This is the rubber that goes inside the door to support the window glass when it is rolled up and down.
What is the correct way to install this material? The old material is already off. Is there a best practices method for prepping the area for installation and what epoxy/adhesive should I use?
Thanks,
Eric

Greetings,
After getting the old stuff off, I went over the edges with some lacquer thinner just to make sure it was good and clean. After letting it air out for about an hour, I then used 3M weatherstripping adheasive and a regular-edge screwdriver (to help push it in place and make sure it's in there evenly). After getting it all in there I rolled the window all the way up, making sure it was staying in place, and left the window up for 2 days. After that, it has been just fine. Now it's been well over a year and it's stayed in place and no leaks at all.

Hi Eric,
I think they're called window run or window channel weatherstrips. Roofrail weatherstrip is typically used on cars w/o the window frames where the door and quarter glass seals directly to the edge of the roof.
Anyway, I'd just like to add that the original pieces had some V-shaped notches cut into the sides where they bend around the sharp corner at the top/rear of the window frame. The replacements I got for both my Novas didn't have those notches but they were easy enough to cut. Without the notches I think it would have a tendency to bunch up and not fit good in those corners. Also, I didn't use any glue or adhesive ... they fit quite snug inside the window frame and have stayed in place just fine without it.

didnt use any glue on mine either, fit is snug, they arent going anywhere. I don't recall the originals being glued in, but not positive.

The originals are not glued in, the rear corner of the frame gets notched, and the front of the channel goes under the wing window frame. Make sure it goes all the way to the bottom of the channel, and you should be good!!
