Nova N8 28th-April-2007, 01:41 PM I've been thinking about putting some wider treads on the back of my '73 for a while now. I want to give it a more aggressive look from the rear without changing the profile. Right now I'm running 215/70/15s all the way around. What are you guys running and what would you recommend?

Luke Shaheen 28th-April-2007, 08:38 PM I'm currently running 295-50-r15's on my 74SS.
The car has extended shackles so that the tires fit. They stick a few inches past the rear fenders.
This is the best picture I have of the tires.

You better hope you never hit a good sized bump when your driving the car or you will have rubber to fender lip contact:eek:

Bscman 29th-April-2007, 03:21 AM Depending on the backspace of your wheels, a 245/60/15 would fit back there relatively easily. In general a 255 is about as wide as you can go without rolling fender lips or relocating shocks.
The best part is your 215/70/15 is 26.85" in diameter, the 245/60/15 is 26.57" in diameter.... So you'll get a wider tire, but keep the same overall diameter so your speedo/stance will stay pretty much the same.
I was running 235's all around for the past few years...
They really didn't look all that wide on a 7" wheel, but in comparison to 215's you'll notice the size difference--it just won't be drastic.

So currently as said on the first page of this thread I've got 295-50 r15's and they stick out quite a bit. They do rub a little bit when I've got the car fully loaded carpooling to school. I'm looking at ordering some of those cheap cragar soft 8 rims for my car. Ones with the fake beadlocks on the back so it looks half decent for the cheap pricetag.
My only question is will a 275 fit on my 74? I was thinkign of ordering 15x8's with 4.5 backspace for the back tires. Then 14x7's for the front. What do you guys think? I guess I should add that I'm planning to drop my car back down to ride height.
74 hatchback 27th-May-2007, 05:15 PM i have a 74' and messed with a few combo's, the 275's will work with a 15x8 with 4.5bs but you will have to roll or notch the lip to the max. dropping the ride height to stock will only work with 255's with rolled lips, i had 295's before and i had to notch the lip and jack it up slightly with a stiff suspention. just remember 3rd gen wells are only 12" wide from inner to lip

You were able to run 295's with jacked up suspension? I noticed my suspension has quite a bit of play in it. My leafsprings are most likely shot. I have new shocks but thats it.
If I can keep my 295's I'm thinking about running these:

74 hatchback 27th-May-2007, 10:13 PM to run 295's with out them sticking out is to raise your car about the same as nova N8's and notch the lip. the only size wheel you can run is a 15x8 with 4.5 bs this is the biggest fattest tire combo that works on a 3rd gen nova without cutting up the car, i drove my car with this setup for 14 years and only rubbed when the rear was weighted down good. the 15x10 wheels with 3.75 bs will make them stick out big time and look goofy! also if your going for a corner car look i would get some arrow wheels, the cragars look truckish.
efirth 28th-May-2007, 11:59 AM I'm running 235/70R15 on the rear. They fill the wheel well nicely.
