Anyone know where, or if, there is anywhere on a car that indicates whether a Nova is a true Rally Nova or not? I'm looking for RPOYF1 code.
Would it show up only on the build sheet? Where is the buid sheet usually located?

Welcome to the site EH!If your car is Canadian you can get the paper work from GM Canada. The build sheets are usually found under the gas tank, under the rear seat, behind front seat covers or behind kick panels. They maybe any where else in the car.

I actually just bought the car, haven't even received it yet. It's a US car.
Do you know if RPOYF1 (Rally Nova code) will show up on the build sheet? Any other way of telling the authenticity?

Sorry I've never followed the Rally Sports, but the code should be on the build sheet I don't know of any other way.Keep in touch here though I know there are a couple of members who have Rally Sports.I'll see what I can dig up for you.;)

Where are you in Ontario?

Thanks Paul, I'm in Windsor, across from Detroit Michigan. I bought this car for more of sentimental value, I had one just like "new" in 1971.

Taz!!! There is no such thing as a "Rally Sport" Nova!!!! That is a Camaro thing!!!!

A "Rally Nova" is a totally different (and much better!!!) animal!!

The only way to validate a Rally Nova is by the build sheet. They can found in various locations in the car. I have found them under the rear seat, behind the back of the rear seat, and under the floor covering. I don't think there is any specific places that build sheets can be found.

I think what he is asking is - That if there is no build sheet are there any other identifiers IE VIN code?

If my memory serves me correct: NO

there is no way to identify the car's SS/RS/YENKO/Baldwin/ETC... authenticity by vin. Although, COPO cars are usually kept track of by VIN after the fact by collectors from accumulated information from dealer inquiry, but RS and SS are factory options. they all start out as a certain build.

The best identifiers are the rearend, sway bar/lack of and trim package (again if my memory serves correct)

FWIW - I may be wrong.

If you could track the car to the dealership that 1st sold it...

Hi there Rally Nova Jim.

Great to see another Rally Nova owner on the board. Those '71's are the tough ones too, as there were only 7,700 built.

I have a '72 Rally Nova. My car came from Michigan, so I don't even have a bulid sheet like some of the lucky owners with CA cars. I do have a broadcast sheet and their is a designation for the stripe kit on that form. I will have to pull it and see what it says.

Tell us more about your car, and or course, post some pictures. Does your car have the blacked out grill and headlight bezels? Do you have the chrome drip rail moldings? Do you have the body color coded sport mirror on the driver's door? These are a few things that all Rally Nova's should have.

Sounds like a great car!

Also, if its a rally, there shoould be no "Nova" emblems on the fenders.
