Does anyone have any sugenstions on how to clean the engine bay before installing the motor? Can it be pressure washed? Also what kind of paint can I use to coat the engine bay. I want it to be clean before I install my motor.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.:)

Greetings,

Some heavy degreaser and a putty knife will work wonders...As far as what paint to use, I'd go with POR-15, but I know others will chime in with suggestions as well.

Good luck!

i used high performance rust olium (im sure i spelt that wrong) works wonder if you clean the surface right, people have asked me before if i got my frame powder coated, and they dont belive me i used a 5 dollar spray can. I would suggest that, but that is only because i liked the out come.

And i also just put my motor in last week...cant wait to give here a run around the town later this week. Have fun

Hey DJ, I am currently doing my engine bay on a 72 2Door. Once the motor was out I bagged the entire wiring harness and put it off to the driver's side out of the way. I then used a cupped wire wheel on the firewall and frame rails. It wasn't at all a big job. I havent finished yet but if you want to see pics in order of progress just click on my link. Once the surface rust was gone I sprayed a coat or two of rust inhibitor. Once I am done with the entire compartment I will probably go with a semi-flat black. Not sure at this moment cause I saw some guys with the gloss black and it did look good too. Check it out and good luck. Post some pics when your done! Billy.

Purple power and oven cleaner work real well to get rid of the gunk. Just make sure everything is spotless and grease free before shooting paint. nothing looks worse than new paint full of "fish eyes"

I like dupli-color semi gloss black on my stuff. holds up real well and easy to clean.

On this car I just did the fenderwells and radiator support, firewall and heater box have factory paint.

On the old Nova, I used oven cleaner, followed by mineral spirts using the air compressor. Did a pretty good job. Still had to use a putty knife in some places where the gunk was heavy.
