Hi and thanks in advance. I just bought a 72 Nova and I would to find out if she's a real SS. I use to see this info some place on this site.
I know this has been asked many time. Sorry!

I believe there should be a letter "K" in the VIN.

Yep, 72 was the first year that you could tell by just looking at the vin. If it has a K in it its a real SS. Other things are SS in 72 only came with 350's and also had stock front disk breaks.

5th digit in the vin# has to be a K for it to be a true SS

Yeah, is it?? Not that it matters, only if you're looking for originality...

Yes she is a real one and a 4 speed car at that. But with a 327. It is a nice clean car.

Congrats, I found a fully restored '72 SS (real one) last summer that I picked up for a great price but doesn't have the original engine/tranny. But otherwise awesome car and then I sold it to my old man. No worries though since I went out and found a '70 SS original big block/4 speed car for a great price but it now has a 350 and t350. I'm going to try and get this one back to original condition. Good luck with yours!
