Got some questions....

I have been working on my '70 Nova for almost 4 years now, and very soon it should be done enough to get out on the road with it. I do have a few questions that need answered though. I pulled the metal plugs out on the inner trunk drop to clean out the crap in there and used POR 15/metal ready/marine clean to make sure no rust ever forms there since it is hard to get to...my question is, how the devil do you get those plugs back in the hole?? They are being stubborn and I can't get them back in...any ideas?
Another one for ya: I threw away my old seat belts that were in the back seat area because they were soiled with mouse pee and just nasty, plus they were not the correct ones for my car anyways. I was wondering if I HAVE to have seat belts for the back seats anyways?? Is it a state or national law that it is required to have them? I live in PA, BTW. I personally don't want them back in, plus that would save me time/money trying to find new ones. My last question: I installed my new "repro" dash pad in my Nova recently and discovered that they do not have the metal clips that hold the top lip of the dash covering tight against the metal top of dashboard, like my old one had. Is this just a fluke, or are there really mounting slots molded into the new dashpad underside? I never really examined the pad real good, I just used the speednut mounts on it and it looks good, but was just curious if anyone has ever bought a repro dashpad with this problem? BTW...I bought the dashpad thru J&W Nova. Sorry for so many questions. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

I think that if the vehicle came with seat belts it has to have them in. Thats about all i can help with

All of the replacement dash pads that I have seen do NOT have them. I got an OER dash pad and I will be using my old clips.

I have heard the OER's don't fit well, can anyone conferm or deny that? Naturally I heard that after I bought it.

The plugs were metal not rubber?

On my '70, the plugs are metal with a rubber gasket on the panel side for sealing. Maybe I can use a rubber one. The hole is 1"

I've seen them in rubber before, so maybe if you are having a problem getting them back in you can use the rubber plugs, what the heck make it easy on yourself. ;).

That is what I will do. I will try to find the rubber style gasket plugs. With the dash problem, I will just live with it and hopefully it won't give me any problems warping. It is already installed, so I am not taking it back out.

Greetings,

I have the OER pad on mine and I was surprised...It fit great and the only issue I had was one of the studs were about 1/4 of an inch off, so I made the hole a little bit bigger and used a washer with the nut.

I believe that, as of '68, all designated seating had to have it's own restraint system...so technically yes, the back seat should have lap belts.

However, I can't see a police officer giving you a hard time over it unless there is someone sitting back there and not having a seat belt. If there is no one back there, I don't think you'd get nailed for doing anything wrong.

I drove around for 2 years with no belts in the back...but no one ever sits back there anyway.

I am glad to hear that. I will hopefully be installing mine in the next couple of weeks.
