It's been a while since I posted these photos. Look at all these 3rd Generation Novas that are rotting away in a junkyard. This isn't all of them, this is just the ones I have pictures of. This doesn't include the Pontiac Venturas or Olds Omegas either!

Yes this is a business still in operation. These pictures were taken about 5 years ago so a LOT of the parts shown in these photos are gone.

The hood from this car will be mounted on my 74 race car next week. It's being painted right now. I doubt they'd ship to you. You basically need to stop in person and look for a part and then pay. One of the few that still let you wander in the yard and pull your own parts.

He can kiss my @****.......

Oh, speaking of neighbor stories..... I just lost out big time in the neighbor lottery. It's quite ironic too.

Some of you read the story about my across-the-street crazy neighbor calling me into the street on two different occasions with some yelling and screaming at me that I'm bringing down the property values (No parts cars are ever kept outside. They go from a trailer to my garage.) and that he can't stand to see what I occasionally bring home.

Well, recently the house beside me went up for sale. Guess who bought it.... Crazy Neighbor's son!! How's that for ironic. I can't imagine that he'd advise his son to buy a house next to one that he accused of being a junkyard and driving down property values.

Now I'm nearly surrounded. :(

I'm surprised to see this stuff is still around. There are abandoned car laws here in WI that don't allow that (mainly towns and cities). The DNR has shut down all the country junkyards. I had a 61 chevy parts car parked behind a building and within a week the police were telling me to junk it or face fines. You don't realize how valuable parts cars are until you're restoring one and have to hunt and pay for every little part, or forget how something goes together or what the correct fastener was, or what part went there, and on and on and on.

I was thinking, maybe I could buy a bunch of those tarp garages and hide 'em , hmmmmmmm.

No the story of cops saying junk it or face fines is enough to make anyone cry. Thats just sickning.

I can't find anything for older parts cars really up here in Canada. The one local place with tons of cars charges as much as new parts are for used ones. The owner aint got a clue. It's really a shame. There's quite a bit of stuff there I would buy if it wasn't like getting insulted everytime you ask for a price.

If you're taking orders, I could use that beige '61 flat top behind the green nova (restoring a beige 2 dr. flat top Impala, AZ car).

I was just thinking what else is there, you're just showing the novas!!!

Reminds me of some guys back in the early 80's who were scrounging old small town dealerships for NOS 55-57 chevy stuff. They hit the motherload in our area before we even had a clue this stuff was available. The shame was they left all the nova, impala and who knows what else NOS. To them it was worthless. By the time they wised up and went back the party was over, all the stuff was junked or bought up.

I'd pay money just to walk that junkyard for a day. It's a vintage car show!

All the salvage yards around here have nothing older than 85 or 86. All the old stuff has been picked apart and crushed. Yards like that are very rare. The laws that are in place now does not allow the start of a new salvage yard, all you can do is buy one already in operation. But you still wont have cars like that.

Don't know the name of the other I mentioned, but they only have 2 1st gens and 1 or 2 3rd's and they are all crap.

This thread makes me sad. :( All of those great cars.

If anyone lives near a scrap yard that has these things mixed up inside and can find a '73 Hatchback (I assume the '74 would work too) rotting away, I need the little "boot" bases that hold the Hatchback bars in place (not sure what the actual name is for them). I posted a thread about it in the classifieds, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to mention it again in these parts.

39 chevy that someone cut in half to make a flat bed out of. it has a all the dash paneling intact though that my friend is going to go back for for his own 39
http://i14.tinypic.com/62h6qds.jpg

we went here just to take the tour. wasnt looking for anything in particular. we plan on making a return trip though. i grabbed a non faded side fender directional light since one of them on my car is faded from the sun. that was it. lots of good hoods, fenders, trunks and some doors for many older cars as you can see. this place is planning on weeding out the old cars for scrap.

I don't mind the snakes so much but all the wood ticks. Yuk! Once you find one, you constantly feel like something's crawling on ya.

Evidence is one thing, but when you open the trunk of a car in the yard and see a live Racoon, that gets your attention. Lots of mice too!

ALWAYS hit the car a couple times BEFORE you open the trunk, doors, ect...if there is evidence that it hasn't been touched in a long time! That will get the critters attention and if you hear a scuffling, wait a minute. Give them a chance to get out before you go in after some "treasure".;) I ALWAYS wear my steel toe work boots too. You never know what stuff you are kicking through in some of those yards!

I wish I could find a single 73-74 in my area that I could buy parts off of.

The only guy that has one in a wrecker near me charges the price of new parts. Old rotten pressure line? $40-$50 they don't know for sure how much. Once you have it off they'll tell you. Rear trunk? I needed one of those. Anywhere between $60 and $150 and oh ya, we can't give you a firm price until it's off and ready to go.

The worst part about these pics is that all of those "junked" cars are all in better shape than what most of us started with on our projects.:(:(

This one is a rusty 1962 Chevy II that's been sitting in my folk's neighbors field since about 1988. The owner is the son of the neighbor, and said he tried selling it once, but couldn't find anyone that wanted to buy it. It still has the inline 6 with the 3 speed manual, a hole in the windshield, rear window looks like it's been smashed out now (used to be there last time I got up close to car), pop riveted sheet metal floor boards, interior is virtually non existent.

This one is a friend of mine's 1969 Camaro. I met him back in 1989 when we were kids in the 5th grade. His dad was driving it then, and passed it down to his son in hopes he'd get out and restore it and learn something about cars. Problem is this guy is a country boy and would rather have his truck before the Camaro, and has always talked of "restoring it one day", but yet he still lives at home with mom and dad and only works when he wants to, and in my opinion has little work ethic, so the Camaro sits. Meanwhile he's turned down plenty of offers to sell it, but said he might consider selling for $5000 or he'd trade for a 1958 Impala. The Camaro hasn't ran in over 10 years, the engine and trans need rebuilt. If he'd take $2000 for it I'd be putting in a rebuilt engine and trans about now and would at the least have it running.

Well he's in Indiana, and last I remember the car needed rockers and quarters I think, not sure about the underbody...and the front header panel was introduced to either a pole or a tree. I know it definitley needs an engine, a transmission and an interior. It's just a standard plain jane Camaro. I believe it's an original V8/manual trans car, not sure though. It still has it's 4 wheel drums and I'm pretty sure an 8.2 rear axle.

Maybe one of you can offer him a running 58 Impala so he won't be so reluctant to let someone (who actually will restore it) fix it up....? :D

I have just been to a place rather close to me that still has a lot of Nova's and Ventura's that are still almost whole! I was in heaven this past weekend! Got some good glass, a trunk lid and 2 drivers doors that were virtually rust free, and some good rear stainless trim. The doors had everything on them/ in them to boot! Might eventually pull a shell out of there because the 70 I'm working on now was worse then the one in the yard and I live in the rust belt. But opinions on what's good varies.

Yeah he still has it, it's a plain jane model, 4 wheel drum brakes, needs the 350 rebuilt in it and the TH350 auto needs redone too, believe it's an 8.2 rear, I think it was a 4 speed car originally, it's not an SS or a Z28 or anything like that, originally Le Mans blue I think, last I checked he has turned down every offer on it. Been sitting 10 + years and 7 + before that. Trust me I'd buy it if he'd sell it to me as I am a friend.
