a friend of mine 70 ss car is in the paint shop. when he got the car it was in primer and i assumed the holes were filled with bondo, but after taking the trunk to metal i can see no evidence there were ever holes. what gives?

Some replacement trunks don't have holes in them for the emblem. Does he still have original stickers under the trunk or none or new looking ones ? I would think the lid was replaced at some time.

Hi green72,

I think they all had the emblems on the trunk. Is there any evidence that the trunk lid has been swapped sometime in the past? Like maybe a different color paint under the primer on the trunk than on the rest of the car. It might possibly have a trunk lid off a 74 SS ... they used "Nova SS" stickers instead of emblems that year. Another possibility is that someone welded up the holes and did a really nice job of metal finishing that didn't require any body filler.

It's possible another member with a 70 SS had no engine ID badges above the fender marker lights. You never know:confused:
