I just bought the 1st gen kit. I didn't get to install it get but I opened up the box to check it out and it looks great! Nicely engineered, complete hardware and very heavy duty!

If it wasnt for the crazy toe in and radical steering shaft angle then they would be allright. I have a friend that is working on one right now and he is making some changes to eliminate the bump steer. I'll post up what he gets to the bottom of.

I installed one on mine. It was pretty simple. The only thing I didnt like is that they sell the steering shaft kit seprate for $250.

Greetings,

I've been kicking around the idea of getting one for mine as well...I'm leaning toward the power one myself. Is it worth the swap?

A buddy told me you can make it a front steer by swapping the tie bars from side to side. Which should reduce bumpsteer. I am looking into getting one as my manual box is slllloppy....

you cant swap side to side whell you can but ackermen princible goes out the window plus turning radius is affected

What I don't get is you always hear someone complaining that the Unisteer kit drastically changes the toe-in. Couldn't you just get an alignment to fix it? You probably should get an alignment anyway after making such a huge change to the steering system.

You cant make a rear steer rack into a front steer rack unless you like your wheels moving oposite of you input.

As for the toe in thing. They may be making a hasty judgment when the car is in the air and the suspension is at full droop. the stock does the same thing.

As for bumpsteer problems. I dont know why anyone would have bumpsteer issues if mounted right. In the shop They measured only a few degrees of toe movement over 4 inches of suspension travel.

I installed a Unisteer Rack and Pinion and it bolted in great and looks great.

But for some reason I have a problem with the oil pan hitting on top of the rack, and according to Unisteer it shouldn't be and they've never had issues. I have a one piece rubber pan gasket and a moroso 7 qt pan. I installed two washers between the motor mount and block which solves the problem but I shouldn't have to do that so I'm still searching to see if there's is something else not right.

Anyone installed a Unisteer R&P in a 3rd Gen Nova? Any issues with the oil pan? I installed a 700R4 trans with a bowtie overdrive crossmemeber. Wondering if this is creating my clearance issue? Looking for a measurement from anyone from the top of the tunnel to the top of the trans tail housing or yoke?

Hey 69bigblock:

Let me know when you do and if you have any issues. Are you planning on using a stock pan or aftermarket?

if the rear of engine / trans has been dropped so the 700r4
will clear the floor, that can cause oil pan & header clearance problems
