OneSickEG 26th-March-2007, 01:43 AM I was wondering if anyone has tried the chassis works G-bar (canted-4 -bar)yet? what there thoughts on it are? How much horse power are they good for? I got a front clip from them and thought it would be fitting to use the rest of there products they have available for the nova. my other ideas I have been toying with is the 4-link from TCI or just using some mono leaves with caltrac bars. Undecided... Please help! the car is going to be mostly street drivin with about 500hp, if that makes any difference. thanks!
Seattle_Mike 26th-March-2007, 01:53 PM With that amount of power you should be fine...their stuff is well engineered and stout. For peace of mind you can always give them a call. I used their front and rear clips on my Nova and compared to others I've used in the past, it's superior in quality and strength.
Mike in Motown 26th-March-2007, 02:31 PM Chassisworks builds quality stuff. Im in the market as you are and was looking at the pleasanton swap meet this weekend. Im leaning toward the TCI because the products are pretty close quality wise but the alston is more money. I havent bought any parts for the nova yet but have used alston drag stuff on other cars and like I said I dont think you will be unhappy with any of their products. One thing was irritating though. The alston guy was bs,ing with his buddy for a half hour and not paying any attention to browsers of his product.

ca is close to ya......dont do a tci.:o
grooves12 26th-March-2007, 11:35 PM I'll put in a word of confidence for the TCI kit... it was EASILY the best made and easiest to install product I have ever put on any of my cars. Usually every "kit" needs some special tool to be made or some unforseen modification needs to made to the car or kit to make it fit. This one required absolutely no re-engineering, it just fit like it was supposed to. The build quality is very stout... it is not going anywhere unless you rip the entire subframe of the car out with it.
I haven't got a chance to drive it yet, but I'm pretty confident it will be much better than the leaf spring setup I previously had. Others have commented that the ride on theirs is a lot better.
One downside of the G-bar to keep in mind: because it uses the stock lower leafspring mount for the lower bar, you will not gain much, if anything, in extra tire clearance, and a mini-tub would be a waste of time. The TCI gives you the entire stock fenderwell to fill with tires... and a mini-tub is possible if you cut one ear on each side of the shock mount bracket off and weld it in.
OneSickEG 27th-March-2007, 01:29 AM Keep them coming! I really do appreciate all of your input on this! I have how ever thought of another interesting question. now I know that the widest tire you can run with a leaf spring (in the stock location) is about a 245 maybe a 255. I am assuming that since the chassisworks G-bar uses the forward spring mounts as their mounting points for their lower links that the widest tire you would be able to run would be the same. But I was wondering if I were to go with a TCI four link what would the widest tire be that I could use with out mini-tubing it? is it the same? Thanks for the help!
sammyb67SS 27th-March-2007, 05:28 AM tci clip is great and there rear4 bar set up is to ,:chev: had both on mine rear was shorten 2 in, ran a 17-8 4in. back spacing 275 40 tire.

Since the leaf springs taper out towards the back, there is more tire room
with the g-bar. also the front link is only 1" dia. where the stock leaf is 2 1/2"
0r 3".
Since the g- bar is a triangulated 4- bar, it does not promote roll steer like
other kits on the market, & the rate of pinion angle change is less.

On a 1st or 2nd gen Nova the limiting factor on rear tire size is the wheel tub not the bars on a 4 bar rear suspension. I think some here have run a 255 tire without a mini tub, but I'm not so sure. With a mini, you can get a 275 in there but that's real close unless you cut into the frame rail. That procedure will probably allow you to run a 295.

Mike in Motown 9th-April-2007, 03:10 PM I think so too.
Do I like Chassisworks stuff?
Lets see, on the shelf now, new no less.
Upper and lower A-arms w/ ball joints
Pro street four link bars w/ poly bushings and brackets
32" ladder bars
3x2 front frame pcs
3x2 rear frame pcs for ladder bar rear
I think I have one of their universal steering shaft kits
I think theres a couple tub kits somewhere
rear coilovers
Hey, looks like I could put together an eliminator style chassis with this stuff!
Looks like I should put something together instead of trolling around to buy MORE parts.
I like parts:D
