Does anyone know for sure what kind of posi carrier would fit in my 72 Nova? I know it a 8.5" 10 bolt but some websites say it a 28 spline and some show it being a 30 spline axle. Any info would help me. even part number's,etc
Thanks Brandon:confused:

If it's the stock/correct rear, it's a 10 Bolt 8.5" rear, with 28 spline count.

Eaton/Auburn/and all the rest make Posi units for this rear. Just make sure you get the correct spline count.

I'm using a stock GM S-Spring type unit out of late 70's/Early 80's camaro in my '72 Nova. If you plan to buy a used unit, be sure to factor in the cost of a rebuilt. I got my unit for $36, but put $150 into it for a clutch pack, shims, bearings, races, and a new S-spring.

I got mine out of a late 70's, 79 i think, Trans am. With rear discs setup. Got it for 400.... Needed total rebuild, new everything for the discs, cept mounting brackets, And to boot i had to trade the housing straight over for a 8.5 out of a 74 nova?? i think....been a while... But it was beacuse the wheelbase was two inches wide with the trans am rear. But there are many factors to consider. I had mine professionally done, Seals, the works and it came up to almost 2 grand for that damn thing. Wish i would have just bought a shortened 12 bolt for that much... Live and learn. And whats another 2 grand anyway? :o

Assuming you Nova has the original rear. 28 spline 8.5. BTW 30 spline? thats a 89 and up truck carrier.
If you want to replace the axles @ the same time you replace the carrier. then you can upgrade to a 30 spline carrier and use 69 camaro 12 bolt axles, and Viola you have 30 spline.

The 30 spline carrier requires adapter bearings available from you supplier of choice and is a direct bolt in.

I know this cause I did it my self. My 72 has 69 Camaro 12 bolt axles because they are 30 spline and the Exact same length as my 10 bolt axles. so in a word 12 bolt axles are the exact same as 10 bolt axles except for the spline count.
