Tell me what ya think. The front end will be an inch lower that this, and the rear im thinking needs to come down 1.5 or so?

Thanks for the comments guys. here is one of the renderings on photoshop i did. And picture the paint to be "shiny" cuz i am horrible at photoshop. haha.

Anyone know of some good shocks for the front? I want stiff suspension that handles well.

Dave,

It will be a Shiny Metalic but i personally dont know how to make a primer paint look shiny on photoshop. Those are just a few renderings i have made. Here are a few more for ya. But the suede looks ok. Not what i have in mind.

Which out of the four do you like best. Im thinking of striped with the graphic rockers that are staggered.

And dave whats the update on your 71? Start that disc brake swap? I have done two of them so let me know if ya get into a bind and need some info, i will try to help as much as i can.

Those wheels look very cool. What brand, model and sizes?

Shiny metallic is good, Rennski. I know it's gonna look great. I was just thinking of a friend's son who did his '55 P/U in flat black suede with a modest pinstripe in lite blue and yellow. It looks ferocious and cool at the same time, if that makes any sense at all!! I'll try to take a pic and post it. You're gonna have a great looking ride!

Yeah the brakes are in. Used a conversion kit in the front and disks came with the 8.8" rear end I swapped into it. Its just taking a long long long long time!! LOL!!

NovaJay- Sorry for not including stats.... :beat: But the wheels are TSW thruxtons 20X10 with 295's And 19X8's with 225's The tired are toyo proxys.

Dave- I know exactly what your talking about, And I think it would be killer on my car if the wheels were Black instead of mine that are Hyper black, I alsmost went that direction before. My brother is doing the suede black on his custom 1951 Fo%$ p/u that is chopped, channeled, Grill recessed 6 inches... Ect. I will be applying the black suede on his truck... Shouldn't be to much harder then regular paint. But ive herd stories of spraying it right and there will be lines in the paint.

And glad to hear the front kit went on good. I grabbed a rear end from a 1978 trans am with rear discs and 3.08 posi carier, Rebuild the posi, put new axels, Richmond 3:73's. I used all new rotors, calipers, ect... But Still not sure how to get a e-brake line to work with my highly backspaced wheels.....Any ideas?

No...I hadn't even thought about the e-brake with a big offset on the wheel! I know the levers on mine are too short to clear much more than what I have (8" with a 4" offset). That's a really good question...wish I had a really good answer!:geek:

....and let's not talk too much about how long these projects take. My daughter asked me again yesterday and I honestly had to tell her I just didn't know!!

Finally quit raining so I shot some pics of that black suede truck I was talking about. His idea of a Rat Rod! It's still muddy and wet (as you can see it runs pretty close to the ground :D ) but you get an idea of what I was talking about. The pinstriping on the black is a cool touch. Can you believe he drives this beast on the street?

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p185/dhkent55/CJ3.jpg

By the way, I was under mine the other day and looked at the ebrake levers. I believe you could weld an extension on the lever, angled back to clear the inside of the wheel. When I was trying to come up with a shock bracket I faked it up in cardboard. You might try something like that to make sure it would clear.

Good luck,

Dave

Bluesman, that is a sweet rat rod truck. Haha Love the oldschool pin striping on it.  Two beers on that truck.

I think its all about how you approach doing the suede. He def pulled it off.

I will find some pics of my brothers project hot rod 51 F@#$ truck. lol

I might go out tonight and try to figure out the whole E-Brake deal. Cardboard... Ive done this before but never thought on mocking up the brake brackets.. Thanks for the idea. :)

Ok, i found one of it in one piece. Back when me and my brother were both in highschool. About 4-5 years ago. He drove this to school everyday with a 428 in it. It rattled so bad cuz my brother never put all the "nuts n bolts" back on all the fenders... Geeezzz i gave him so much crap.

He has since channeled the floor, created an entirely new frame out of steel tubing. And created his own floor pans out of sheet metal. And modified a for 9 inch rear end housing he bought from Competition engineering. Has a 4 link. He also narrowed the housing using the equiptment at the latemodel race car shop he used to work at. Also has a mustang II front end.... Has shockwaves for it in boxes.

Anyway here is the old pic of it. If you want some newer pics of it i will gladely post.

Looks like you are getting there. I like what you did with the dash. I may have to copy that, trying to keep all the guages in the instrument cluster area so AC can be installed. What is the box hanging down in the middle of the car in pic 303?

1971novaSS

That box is my 8 quart racing oil pan from Canton Racing. lil bugger was insanely expencive. At the time of buying it i didn't think i was going to be dropping it to the frame. Due to the fact that it sticks about 1/2 inch lower then the frame. I have a cure for that remedy.

As for the gauges, i would be happy to help you out if along the way you have questions.

here is the pic Your talking about

That's a rather large oil pan, but then, most of the MBs and BMWs have 8 qt pans. Not sure when I would get to the dash. I have so much else to do that's neccessary. The dash is a WANT! If I remember correctly, you made yours out of wood. People pay big bucks for real wood dashes. I'd like to use thin, say .065 aluminum though. How did you mount yours?

1971novaSS
4th-March-2007, 02:32 AM
Basically i could have used anything as a platform for the gauges(aka the wood piece). You def will have to take it all the way out of the car. Take the HUGE speedo gauge cluster out and you will have to cut alot of the old plastic bracketry and braceing from the back.

A: This is where you will actually be cutting plastic out very carefully with a dremel and a 1.5-two inch cutoff wheel. This takes a steady hand and if you mess up, well you mess up the entire dash. haha, no pressure.

B:Points where i drilled two small hoes to thread copper wire into the wood part of the dash to hold it in. I then painted the little copper wire with black. It is inside of the grooves or folds of the dash so that you will not be able to see them.

C: This is where i fiberglasses the "wood" section of the dash onto the plastic piece in the back of the unit. I used fiberglass mat and resin first then after it had dried pretty good i used a lil fiberglass mixed with bodyfiller, which seem to work very well and create a rigid support.

If i havn't been clear on something then ask. I will most likely be painting the wood part the color of the car.

Looks you a lot of careful cutting and hold in in with wire. Do you plan to fiberglass the entire dash?

1971novaSS
5th-March-2007, 03:21 AM
If anything i plan on either painting the wood grain part the color of the car or... black to match the rest of the dash. I might even just leave it the wood grain, since alot of little accents on the interior are going to be wood grain.

Or i might cut the wood dash out by cutting and removing the fiberglas support system and wire and then replacing it with a billet aluminum piece. But not sure yet. Have a few other obstacles that need to be tackled before this.

And dont even ask about the custom transmission temp gauge hidden in the cigerette ash tray that is custom fiberglassed in. No one has noticed yet... But it flips up and down, hence HIDDEN. And there was alot of modification to get it to be able to flip up and down. haha

Just giving someone else some ideas. ;)

Yup, missed the trans temp guage. I've already decided on one of those Classic industries cup holders. I do need a few creature comforts. I certainly don't need an ash tray. May need the ligher though.
