Did 3rd Gens ever get an automatic center console without gauges? I can't remember seeing one and didn't see anything in a few catalogs I looked in.

Thanks

Yes. The console itself was an option. Gauges were an additional option on top of the console.

Bill, Are you thinking about putting a console in? Let me know.

Yes--I saw one in a one-owner '73 SS. The car had the console with the auto. in the floor, but no gauges.

I was thinking about it. I think a stock console and shifter would look great. I don't take my car to the track (or haven't yet) so I don't know how necessary this ratchet stuff is. And I don't like the way my Hurst operates.

Do you have one?

And can anyone send me a pic?

Thanks

This one would work right? And did they come with a neutral safety switch and a reverse light switch?

That shifter looks kind of like the one I have. Mine is buried somewhere in the basement so I don't know for sure. It looks like it could be a good deal if it is right? maybe someone here knows for sure.

It looks like the housings and the trans humps are repoped and the prices are reasonable through Classic Industries compared to what some cracked ones on eBay seem to go for. But I can't find the shifters repopped anywhere. I have 2 questions:

1. Is the shifter mechanism repopped?
2. Is the trans tunnel hump the same for a 4 speed as it is for an automatic?

Any help is appreciated! :)

I have not seen a repop auto, and I think the humps a the same 4spd to auto. There is a rod that goes from the frame to the column as well as trans that will operate safety neutral switch and selector for autos.I think the Camaro is inerchangeable as well.

I am putting together a list of what I need to order from Classic Industries and have a few questions.

In the first picture is a "Swivel Kit". I think it comes with the linkage in the second picture but need someone to confirm this. Does this swivel go between the bracket that connects to the trans and the linkage?

And also, what is this Trans Control Cable Bracket? The description says its for console shifted transmissions. I'm wondering if I need it.

Have any of you guys put an aftermarket performance shifter into the stock console? The factory shifter in my console is junk and I need to upgrade to some kind of ratchet performance shifter. I can take the plates out of the console where it is and I think I should be able to get something to fit in there without cutting or ruining the console. Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me if I am looking at this right and the swivel comes with the linkage?

Also, that bracket, what is it for?

Thanks

I am working on that right now. I am using a B&M quicksilver with my original console. The saving grace on my car is that the Bodyshop put my Hump too far forward, if I was to use it where its placed my guages would be so far under the dash that you couldnt see them and the shifter would hit the dash in park. Anyhow I have moved where the guage cluster goes over the hump which has set my shifter to what I feel is comfortable. I have had to cut a top bracket off of the shifter and will be using a boot like on a 4 speed instead of the original console setup. I am still working on if or how to indicate PRND21. I did see someone makes a boot that has an indicator for autos.Anyhow its a work in progress.

Cool! Yeah, I haven't had time to actually take it apart and measure or anything yet. Just mulling over ideas for when I can work on it. The "transmission hump" - I'm not sure I understand what you guys are referring to there. Is there a hump on top of the tunnel? I thought the whole tunnel was the same all along it. Like I said - I haven't got anything apart yet. I know several of the aftermarket shifters have the shift position indicator in the shifter console that comes with it. Not sure about the one you have. Maybe we'll be breaking new ground if we can get this setup to work......

There is an indicator on my shifter but to get the shifter to work in the stock console it won't work. It only works in the B&M console that comes with the shifter.
You should have the "HUMP" in your car, feel around your carpet for it.
I posted the question of an aftermarket shifter in console and basically came up with that no one has done it, soooooooo being I have no interior.........
Why not! I will post pics tomorrow!

Just checked out your pics of your console and it seems to be positioned like mine is supposed to be, when I put the Quick Silver on the hump it hit my dash and I thought the guages would be too far forward to see so I have moved the shifter behind the hump and am going to use the angled 2" guages in the cluster (found in JEGS and etc.) I personally felt more comfortable with the shifter back torward me. You might have to find a shorter aftermarket shifter for your application.
