I'm trying to adjust my rear drum brakes on a 71 Nova, but there is no adjustment slot on the drums:confused:
How am I supposed to adjust them without that slot??

The slot is not on the drums, its on the backing plate. You should be able to see it if you get under the car and look at the opposite side of the drum (that's the backing plate) and you will see it on the bottom.

Your brakes should be self-adjusting. Shifting from forward to reverse several times while applying the brakes firmly, should do it.

that is hiow you get the initial adjustment. After that you drive in reverse and tap the brakes to allow the self adjusters to finish the job.

When i used to have that problem i just went in reverse and slam on the brakes a couple of times...
You might have to do it a couple times after redoing the breaks... After they break in fairly good it will stop doing that...
Also if it is pulling in the front just switch the left front drum to the right front drum and the right front drum to the left front drum. i had a problem with that too.
Never again will i have front drums on my car!!!
