Debating on what wheels to buy. Already have the car mini-tubbed so normal size issues wont be a problem. Looking at a set of 18x10 TT2's. Just seeing what is out there. Thanks,Scott
Any 3rd gen's with 18-20 inch wheels???? Let's see them!2tontruck 8th-February-2007, 12:50 AM Debating on what wheels to buy. Already have the car mini-tubbed so normal size issues wont be a problem. We have seen them, most think it looks silly. 14' and 15' look best. When people put those tall wheels under the cars they never look fat even with a fat tire. with a 15 inch wheel you can install a really fat tire and it will look really fat. Tommy:) 2tontruck 8th-February-2007, 01:16 AM 18-20's should go on the 2 ton truck. Tommy:) I have looked at sooo many different Nova's with average size wheels on them. Just want something a little different.;) Bscman 8th-February-2007, 04:09 AM I've seen several pics, and there are even a few guys floating around the forums with 3rd gen's with larger wheels on them. I'd definitely take a second look at them, as they pull it off well...but you have to be REALLY picky about the wheels you choose, and the color/stance of your car. But to be honest I think a 14-15" looks a LOT better. Huge sidewalls and fat tires look a whole lot more period correct, and aggressive! Gaslight 8th-February-2007, 11:23 AM I just got done putting my 73 on the ground with its 18 X 9's in the front. Still have to put the sheetmetal back on which may cause conflicts. As soon as the front is put back together the 18 X 10's go on the rear. Just can't decide between the DSE spring relo kit or the Qudra-link system. Tommy:) The 3rd gen wheel openings where made for 18 inch wheels. They fill the opening with out looking to big. I personally think big balloon tires with little Dots for rims looks like they belong on 77 Dodge pick ups. I remember seeing it in a magazine. It changed my perception of putting big wheels on 3rd gens. That said you have to be REALLY picky about the wheel and stance to make it look right. You can't just throw on a set of 20's because they are 20's and think it looks good. slickman 8th-February-2007, 02:58 PM I've seen several pics, and there are even a few guys floating around the forums with 3rd gen's with larger wheels on them. Anything over 15 inch look okay on a pro touring car but not on a muscle car. Plus, the ride is MUCH better on 15's.. Been there, done that.. big dog ss 8th-February-2007, 04:22 PM What he said.. It is not painted yet but you need to have a plan otherwise the pro-touring look will show the fact that you just threw big wheels on a car) Just my .02 cents. Gaslight 8th-February-2007, 05:23 PM I have almost got the front finished so I can whip it around and do the rear. What did you have to do to get the 10's in? I know tub it but did you have to go into the frame? You have them tucked in there perfectly. Its a total package. Restomod is a look. Pro-touring72 8th-February-2007, 06:02 PM What he said.. Anything over 15 inch look okay on a pro touring car but not on a muscle car. Plus, the ride is MUCH better on 15's.. Been there, done that.. The ride of my car is no harsher than my 98 buick Century. But corners as flat as a Vette. It takes more than bolting wheels on to be a Pro-touring car. Other than tubs what (if any) did you have to do? I am about to install my 18 X 10 wheels here real quick. I know I am going to have to tub it up to the frame. Jake RatNova71 8th-February-2007, 07:15 PM Thats whats great about 3rd Gens, they look great with anything from 14" stockers to 20" wheels!!! Whatever floats your boat! I will agree with the guy who said the ride is much more harsh with the bigger wheels and low profile tires. I felt a big difference going from 15s to 17s. I do like the look of the 17s though. This is one of my favorite cars on this site. Nice car Mark. http://www.popularhotrodding.com/features/0604phr_nova_14_z.jpg Hemi Nova 8th-February-2007, 07:59 PM Here's mine, 18x8's and 20x10 Boyd Harms.
