And one of the members states this about a bolt up swap for first generation Novas. Is this true what he states?
Quote:
These will bolt right up, I have personal experience with them:
Any 62-67 Nova rear, any 75-80 Granada/Monarch/Versailles rear, any 57-59 Ford rear, any 64-65 Mustang rear.
I've never personally installed a Mopar A-body rear or a Bronco rear, but there is anecdotal info at Steve's Nova Site.
S-10 rears will fit with some mods, and there are a couple of widths you have to choose from. I saw a S-10 disc rear under a 63 but it took some welding.

I wrote that. Now that you're here, you might even get a response from a guy who found his 9" under a golf cart.

Golf cart?
Mike I was not trying to bash your post in anyway. I just wanted a secound opinion on what you said before I start a search for a posi unit.

The early Bronco rear is a drop in, however the 5x51/2" bolt pattern will cause some extra work or expense.

I'm putting in a 9" bronco rear now. Just waiting on Moser for the redrilled axles. Other than welding on the spring pads, Its an easy deal.

I did the S10 cause it is 4" narrower and only have to move spring perch. I chose to miny tub , move springs in and bingo you still got a chey.

What size wheel and tire are you running? Also what offset? I am going to be using this same rearend and I'm trying to decide if I want to mini tub it or not.

Mopar A bodies are a direct bolt in, I have a 8.75 under my 63, it came out of an early dart. The upside is that they have the same spring perch location and overall are slightly narrower, which allows a slightly wider tire, downside is that they have a 5 x 4 bolt pattern which limits wheel choice considerably. I have found aftermarket axles that will now let me run 5 x 4.5, so at least there are some options. There are three different center carriers, they are marked 489, 742, 741. The 741 is the weakest the 489 the strongest, there getting harder to find but they are still out there.

Will these rears fit a 66 as well? And confirming they are a direct bolt in other than the bolt patterns are different. What about u-joints?

How much do you want for them? And could you post or send me a pic?

I did one from a 57 Ford once. I just replaced the saddles. I also moved the springs in. The worst part was that I couldn't find brake hardware for the 57 Ford. I ended up putting whole brake/backing pad assembly on from a 78 T-Bird.

I used a 7.5 out if a 78 El Camino, other than cutting off all the coil spring crap it went in real easy, and is the same width too. This is the same rearend as the S-10, other than the coil spring stuff.

A friend of mine just put a S-10 rearend in his 66. If I remember right, he had to get a rear from a 4X4. Posi unit with a 3:73 stock. cost $100.00 at the local Salvage yard. $50.00 to have the correct perches welded on. Works perfect. I think the two wheel drive S-10 are two inches longer. He has a 383 in his 66 and the rear end works great and only $150.00 total. Good luck.
