So we were doing the tune up and checking everything and the carb is shot pretty much, the accelerator pump leaks bad, you can only get all 4 barrels to open if your under the hood playing with it, wont open while driving, the choke isnt hooked up it just freely moves.......so anyways anybody have an edelbrock looking to sell cheap or that i can have for the time being, it would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have vacuum secondaries? If so, they only open when the engine is under load.

The secondaries won't open unless you are standing on the throttle while driving the car.
The secondaries will not open by free revving the engine. The engine needs to be under a load before they will open. If you are still uncertain if they are opening or not you can take a normal paperclip and clip it onto the secondary diaphram rod. You will then push it up against the bottom of the secondary diaphram housing, now you will need to go out and drive the vehicle. When you return you will be able to look at the position of the paperclip on the rod. If it is lower on the rod then you can tell the secondaries opened and how far they opened. This is useful in determining if you need a heavier or lighter secondary spring.

You should be able to hear the secondaries open when you are driving it especially if you drive it without the air cleaner for a short distance. You should also be able to feel it when the secondaries open. Seat of the pants feel. I have seen secondaries open on q-jets when in neutral and reving the engine but not on a holley if that is what you have.

A properly tuned car with vacuum secondaries should have a smooth transition as the secondaries open. You should not be able to feel the secondaries open.
A lot of quadrajet guys will modify the secondaries to open instantly at a certain point--then you can feel and hear when they pop open...some say this will make the car faster, but most disagree. I tried it on my '68 pickup (manual tranny) and it made it a bit more fun to drive, but I prefer the smoother transition like on my holley in my '72 Nova.
That being said, the secondaries won't open by just revving the engine in nuetral...they'll only open while under a load.
Use a paperclip or similar item on the linkage to the secondaries, test drive the car, and check to see if the secondaries did open. Odds are it's working fine.
That being said, have you considered a rebuilt?
What type of carb is it? They aren't too hard to rebuild if you study up, and take your time (cheaper too!)

I like the quadrajets. They're a great carb when properly tuned, IMO...especially for a street car.
There are people running 11's and quicker with quadrajets...and the smaller primaries mean better mileage with day to day driving. They are more difficult to rebuild than a holley for sure (more small parts), but are good carbs.
