Well, a day I've been waiting for for 6 months has finally come: I got to drive my 72 for the first time today!

Quick backstory: I wrecked my nice 68 4dr daily driver last fall and had to scramble to find another Nova that I could transfer all my parts into. Motor, trans, interior, front end, front clip...most of the car, in other words..by myself...with minimal tools...while bumming rides to work...and no money.

Found a 72 drag car (sorta) and have been building it ever since. the build took 12 working weeks (time I spent on the car). And many of you know, it ain't easy. 72 the day I got it:

And the pics I took today:

Everything is pretty much the same, except for the 4.11s! This car really pulls now and is different to drive. Still a Chevy Nova, still my drivetrain, still my bench seat...but now a little different. It's been very difficult, but there were no catastrophic problems. Everything fit! And cost? Around $2200. I sold many parts and re-used everything else.

My sincere thanks to everyone who helped me out in a pinch. In fact, I found the car here! I'm always absorbing much information through this site. Now I get to do bodywork! I was thinking Gobi Beige, black hood...hmm...

At this point, I'm realizing that Ill be driving Chevy Novas for the remainder of my life. And that's okay! Complete pics: http://s104.photobucket.com/albums/m170/GregWarnecke

Trying to sell the 68, which in the classifieds (68-74 Novas For Sale).

Wow, good hustle. Did you sleep? 12 weeks is a very short amount of time to do a total conversion. Excellent job.

Are you going to sell anything off of the 68? If so, I've got some items that I'd make you an offer on.

PM me.

It's interesting. It's not way gawdy and tasteless like some hoods, but it attracts attention for sure. And it keeps great airflow underneath. I actually made a plug for it with foam, fiberglass, and bondo. Works great!

The original front clip on the 72 was junk. The passenger fender is from my 68 and fits good! But my driver's side fender is Goodmark and needed a little adjusting. I had never fit fenders before, but learned a lot just by doing it!:awkward:

The first time I fit the driver's fender was in the only spot that Nova was sitting for 5 months:

It fit like crap to no surprise! But I worked it later outside and played around with it until I got it.

I was originally going to rattle-can the car satin black, just like I did with my 68, but now I'm contemplating Gobi Beige with a black hood and side strips. I want an original-appearing classic drag car, very basic and simple. I'll make it look nice and work well. Not quite sleeper, a quick driver. Plus that would explain the dog dishes and Cragars!

The feeling driving it was euphoric. I turned so many heads in the short distance I traveled today.

It's a Harwood 6in hood. The fit isn't too shabby and I really like it.

Holy cowl! Play a trick on your friends by asking them to get in the back seat. ;)

Nice job swapping everything over.
