to clone or not to clone?

Well, feedback time people. Do I leave her as she is, or get the SS badging, black out the grill and put on the hood louvers?

I think that it looks really good the way it is. I would take a long hard look if I saw it at a stoplight. But if you like the SS look, go for it.

It's a matter of preference. I think it looks good as it is, but a little flair never hurt anyone.:D

Dont clone it.

I'm not one for SS cloning...everyone does it, and eventually they start telling people it's real. I'd get sick of everyone asking.

That being said, I think the grills look a million times better blacked out. I blacked mine out, but not in the same manner as the SS's. Rather than blacking everything out, except for two of the fins in the grill (like the factory SS's)...I left all the outside edges of each fin in the grill polished, but blacked out the rest so you can't see bracketry and all the polished vertical pieces.

i prefer the look of the blacked out grills myself. but i agree with the "dont clone it" opinions.

I have always been one for "it is what it is" in regards to SS badges. Grills and such are more of just personal preference.

i think your car looks great and who knows it might not look as good on your car than it does on a different gen 3 you've seen

just get another grill and an emblem. that way you can switch it back and forth and people will think you have 2 novas.

I have to agree, do what you want. Mine is an SS clone but done the right way. Not just the SS badge's, it has all the features of an SS.. I don't try an say its a real SS however, it looks way cooler then the run of the mill. But, that me.. I feel if you're going to clone it, do it right or not at all...

Paint the grill but dont clone it. Add in the non ss tail light panel. I made my own tail panel with no ribs.

When I bought my car my tail panel was silver. I took it off, masked off the top and bottom ribs and spraypainted it instead of buying a new piece. Looks good enough to me.

My car was born a poor sandalwood 307 powerglide, air car. It went through several owners, but still had all of its original sheetmetal. How much would someone pay for a rotiserie resto on this car. 15K? 20k? 25k?
When I got the car, it already had the SS equipment put on and always presented as an SS clone.
I did a full frame off roteserie resto, installed all of the SS equipment, 350 4 sp, posi, ect. painted it red and showed it for a year. Then took it to Auburn Indiana to the Kruse auction. Keep in mind this car was won Gold at NNN in 05, so it was pretty nice.

Sold at auction for $37,500 as a CLONE.

I agree with all the "do waht makes you happy with your car" posts as well. I like both standard and SS cars. As for my opinion, I'd dp the blacked out grill and that's it. Maybe the tail panel trim peice, but I wouldn't put the badges or hood louvers on it if it were mine. But what do I know, my 71 6cyl., PG car has a 427/4 speed, 12 bolt, and Yenko striping on it.:cool:

leave it alone, thats the only way to be a real bad ask! some cars start to loose the attention once they are done over and over and over like 5.0 mustangs and any SS chevy, they dont get the double take anymore if ya know what i mean? your car looks real cool like it should! EVIL in a good way!

It's a personal preference. However, I like Bcsman's idea and may do that myselt. I've also considered painting the grill and bumper filler body color, but not sure what that would look like.
