BUD 1 30th-January-2007, 10:04 PM Try Using A 6 Point Socket If That Does Not Work Get A Good Pair Of Vise Grips And A Hammer sherwood87 30th-January-2007, 10:08 PM ok thanks ill try in the morning taz3 30th-January-2007, 10:11 PM Sometimes it's easier to brake it off by over tightening it and just replace the stud or drill it out. tnblkc230wz 30th-January-2007, 11:36 PM I'd go for the vice grips and hammer. Sears also has a wrench that will grip rounded nuts. It's tough to drill out a 7/16 wheel stud. You may need to replace the lug as well as the nut. FunkyNova66 30th-January-2007, 11:44 PM You might can use a wheel lock remover. Its a socket with reverse thread. The tighter you drive it on the more it digs in and eventually it drives the nut loose. Here is an example: http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/ame400.html Most tire and wheel places have these. Take you car up there and see if they can remove it for you. Dave 67 Deuce 4 Me 30th-January-2007, 11:49 PM Of you have an old socket like a 12 point metric that is close to going on, you may be able to beat it on with a hammer and remove it that way. A pipe wrench is good too if you can get a grip on it. Bscman 31st-January-2007, 04:29 AM I'm running a 235/60/14 on a 14x7 rim with 3.5" of backspacing and no problems...the rear has been lowered slightly. I think 15x7's w/ 4" of b/s would work great on my car as well. I've run 215/65/15's w/ 4" of b/s and had more than enough room all around for wider. I'd try the vice grip method as well...A little heat may or may not help. Or buy one of the special sockets designed to remove rounded out nuts. Bluesman 1st-February-2007, 04:51 PM I have 15/7s with 236R60 tires on my '71 and they fit just fine with room to spare. Heat the lug and nut up until water (spit!) sizzles on it...not red hot but just boiling hot. Then quickly spray it with something like liquid wrench (not WD40). When it cools it will suck that stuff into the threads and make your job a lot easier. Dave green72 1st-February-2007, 07:55 PM i have 255/60r15 on 7" plain steel wheels on the rear with no problem 68chevyll 2nd-February-2007, 11:12 PM Of you have an old socket like a 12 point metric that is close to going on, you may be able to beat it on with a hammer and remove it that way. A pipe wrench is good too if you can get a grip on it. That's what I would try also. BillsNogo 2nd-February-2007, 11:44 PM If by chance you break the stud off, I would not drill it out, that is the hard way. When a few of mine broke off, I got a grade 8 bolt slightly smaller than the stud and pounded out what was left with a 3lbs sledge. Worked like a charm and took only 10 seconds a piece :D | |
