I am replacing my leaf springs with Hotchkis 1 1/2 drop springs. Everything was going well until I went to remove the 3 front bolts that hold the leaf to the frame. Went to remove the and they just sping like there in a nut or something behind but there is no opening to get a wrench in to hold it. Any help would be appreciated.

Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

Thanks, Matt

you have broken all the clips, your going to have to cut the heads off all the bolts and try to get as many pieces out of the body as possible and buy new clips.

5 of my 6 clips were broken as well. I used an angle grinder and ground the heads down as far as I could and worked the clips out through the access hole on the side. It takes time but you will get them out.

I guess im not the only one this has happened to. I broke all except the ones that mounted to the frame rail. I just cut the heads off today.

I carefully torched mine and then reinstalled new ones when I did my caltrac install, which requires dropping the front eye..

I know you pain.Installed caltracs in 05 and 4 of 6 spun.I used a cut-off wheel & a diegrinder to get them out.It takes alittle time but the new ones will go in and out much better.lol

I drilled holes in the floor and put a wrench on the nuts inside.

Thats why i designed a set of link bars that just clamped to the spring eye and a set of frame ties that bolts between the e-brake cable braket and the spring bucket, i didnt have to touch anything anymore and they both work just as good, i broke all the bolts on my car and my buddy's nova.

Greetings,

That's exactly what I did...Then I know it's secure and don't have to worry about issues in the future.

Me too, I just replaced the springs on my '70 and thought doing it this way would make it more secure in the long run.....
